Visit With Liu Sifu

We just had a great visit with Liu Chang’I sifu, my Feeding Crane teacher. I first met Liu sifu in 1996, and we both found it rather surprising that 30 years has passed since then. Luckily while time has passed at least neither of us is really any older... It had been a few years however since we’ve been able to train together and it was nice to touch hands, to get some corrections and insight into my training, and to just hang out....

The Feeding Crane seminar here in the Boston area is filling up fast. There are only 5 spaces left, and we are going to cap attendance so that everyone can get proper attention as we train. If you are interested but not signed up, now is the time!

Looking forward to sharing some Feeding Crane Kung'fu with folks soon!

The seminar with Liu sifu is getting closer! We're excited to see sifu and to have a fantastic seminar weekend! The spots are filling up fast, and we are going to cap attendance so the group isn't too large to have some good one on one time. If you are interested and haven't registered yet, I'd do so soon! Costs also go up a little on the1st, so don't wait.

Mike

My last post was about Michael Larimore. I didn’t include his name because I didn’t feel it was the right time, as he struggled with the cancer that killed him. He has passed away and I find I have both too much and no more to say. I will miss Mike greatly, in my practice and in our dojo and more as one of the people who have made my life a brighter and more interesting place....

Looking forward to our seminar here in the Boston area, but in case you are further away Liu sifu is also doing a seminar in Boulder. If you can go, it is definitely worth checking out! Feeding Crane is a fantastic system and Liu sifu is the standard bearer for it!

Student, Teacher, Friend

Quite a while back I wrote a post about who your teachers really are. Right now an old friend, a long time student, and absolutely one of my teachers, is quite ill. It has me thinking about these things again. We started training together around 2000, when we, and the dojo, were a lot younger. Now it’s been decades and he’s been instrumental in some of our more important changes....

Feeding Crane Seminar 2026! 白鶴門食鶴拳

After a break of a few years we are excited to have Liu Chang'I Sifu back in the Boston area! We’ll be doing a weekend seminar, spending time with sifu, and of course doing some closed-door training for dojo members and others with Feeding Crane experience. It will be a fun time, excellent training, and good to see sifu after too long....

I'm not a historian. I find however that understanding history is essential to understanding a whole host of other things. In my academic training history was considered a key part of the background needed to understand current social and cultural circumstances. Without this background it is very easy to make simple mistakes, or to fall victim to overly simplified or just plain false but popular narratives about all sorts of things....
