So many smiles and hugs on our first day of school yesterday. It was so great to reconnect with friends and teachers and to welcome 91 new ninth graders, plus 8 new transfer students and 11 Gesher2Gann students. We kicked off with a joyful arrival, then started the day with a new Gann tradition: an all-school assembly where the whole community lined up to welcome our new students.

At assembly, we heard from our new rabbinic leadership, Rav Becca and Rav Shua, our Head of School Dr. Dalia Hochman, and our student council president Mia W. ‘27 We closed with Jeremy Y ‘27 blowing the shofar. It’s going to be a great year. Photos by Finn A ‘28 and Robert G ‘28

We’re ready to go at Gann!

After a week of new-teacher orientation and a full week of professional learning and preparation for our entire faculty, we are excited to welcome new students for orientation and the whole school community for the first day of classes.

Congratulations to Ezra C. ’27, Barak M. ’26, and team captain James H. ’25 for representing Team USA at the 22nd Maccabiah Games in Israel!

Ezra, Barak, and James competed alongside Jewish athletes from around the world. A special shout-out to Ezra and his basketball team for bringing home the gold, and to James and his soccer team for earning the bronze!

We are so proud of all three of them and their impressive accomplishments.

Today, we celebrated all that you have accomplished. Four years of learning, friendship, intellectual curiosity, discovery, and growth. Four years of asking big questions, engaging deeply with ideas, building community, and becoming not only stronger students, but thoughtful Jews and compassionate human beings.

There’s something special when alumni come back. This week, Ami Listokin ‘22, Hadas Shapiro ‘23, Ari Menzin ‘24, Maor Baker ‘24, and Nadav Borensztajn ‘24 sat down with Gann’s rising seniors to talk about gap years, life in Israel, and the paths that brought them to where they are today. Despite their very different and unique experiences, two of the alum are attending Yale University and two others are attending the University of Maryland, a testament to how the Gann community can stay closely connected even long after graduation. Whatever the path, the Gann spirit travels with our graduates. So proud of this community.

Today is Gann Academy’s Alumni Day of Giving.

We need over 100 more gifts to reach 180 alumni donors and unlock $18,000 in matching funds before the end of the day. We can do it, but we need your help!

New Jewish High School alum Dr. Avraham “Avi” Cooper, associate professor of medicine at Ohio State University, published an article in The Magazine about a breakthrough pathway that scientists call the interstitium, a large, interconnected network in the body.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and here is one small vignette of the many ways our students show appreciation for their teachers at Gann Academy.

In Dr. Casey Moden’s Fabrication Techniques class, students designed, cut, and created pieces of art inspired by themes that were meaningful to some of their favorite teachers, and presented them as a surprise.

It’s just one example of the deep bonds and connections between students and teachers at Gann. We are so grateful for everything our teachers do every day: building meaningful relationships with students, inspiring curiosity, and bringing incredible energy and care into the classroom.

With the Class of 2026 graduating this spring, Gann reaches 1,800 alumni.

On May 18, we will host Gann’s first-ever Alumni Day of Giving. If we reach our goal of 180 alumni gifts, we’ll unlock an $18,000 matching challenge.

Each graduate carries Gann forward into communities, careers, Jewish life, and the wider world, expanding the reach of our school in ways both visible and lasting.
