Our meetings are fun, as well as educational. Here's a recent speech. Come join us! We need just ONE new member to reach our goal of 20 members by the end of June, which will qualify our club for an award. And we love new members. Start out by being a guest!

In this meeting we had people from Spain, China, Costa Rica, Saudi Arabia, Haiti, UK, and USA! Just another day in the life of Sylvan Speakers.

We had a rare in-person meeting at a park, for those who are in the Boston area. Our president, Sharon, flew in from North Carolina. A great time was had by all. We will still meet on line on Wednesday, as usual.

Can a club have a good meeting with guests almost equalling the number of members? Apparently so! Today we had so many members traveling and attending graduations, etc, only 6 could attend. Meanwhile, 4 guests attended! The guests pitched right in and acted like members. It was a lot of fun! One guest was in India, another in Taiwan.

We got ourselves listed on the Toastmasters International website as an "online-only club." This is bearing fruit! Yesterday we had guests from 2 different countries (Nigeria and Taiwan) and recently we gained a new member from Canada! The week before we had a guest from India. We are excited about our increasing diversity! It should result in some interesting speeches.

The time difference meant that the person in Taiwan was attending our "noon Wednesday" meeting at midnight Thursday!

9. What should one expect during the meeting as a guest?

You will be greeted by our president and other club members. At the beginning of the meeting, our president will invite you to introduce yourself briefly. During the table topics session, you may be offered a topic to speak on; you can accept or decline, as you wish. At the end of the meeting, you will be invited to say a few words. This is an opportunity for you to share any thoughts, feelings or feedback you may have about your experience as a guest.

10. How many times may I attend as a guest?

As many as you want. We hope that sooner or later you will decide to join, but that's up to you.

11. What is the next step after you decide to join the club?

The next step is that you need to fill out the membership application form and pay the membership fee after we receive your application. The VP membership officer will send you the link for the application form. When you complete the form, please send it back to our VP membership officer and Treasurer, who will help you with the membership and fee.

12. How much is the membership fee?

The monthly fee is $8.50, paid annually or semi-annually, and there is a one-time $25 initiation fee.
