The Village Series is now a permanent member level at Tatreez Institute!

Explore Palestinian women’s dress and embroidery traditions between 1850 and 1948 through 11 recorded lectures covering 23 regions, towns, and tribal areas. The first five classes are available in newly recorded editions featuring updated research and close study of the Tatreez Institute Dress Collection.

Study at your own pace, revisit the lectures whenever you like, and enjoy ongoing access with no expiration dates or end dates on your videos. New classes will be released on a rolling schedule, with the next lecture available before November 1.

Hello, dear friends of the Tatreez Institute,

We have a tremendous opportunity to show our love and respect for the inspiration behind the Institute, the genesis of Tatreez & Tea, and the woman who has dedicated her life’s work to promoting Palestinian embroidery in the United States: my mother, Feryal!

The Lifetime Achievement in Arts & Culture Award honors an individual whose sustained, decades-long contributions have shaped Oregon’s cultural landscape. For almost 40 years, my mother has taught Palestinian embroidery and history, apprenticed dozens of Palestinian women in Oregon, and made a phenomenal impact on the preservation and teaching of Palestinian embroidery both nationally and globally through the work of Tatreez & Tea and the Tatreez Institute.

Please take five minutes to nominate her for this award! Nominations are due September 4, and the main requirement is simply a statement of no more than 500 words explaining why she deserves this recognition.

Join us for a special author & artist talk with visiting educator Wafa Ghnaim, and come learn about regional distinctions in Palestinian dress & embroidery (tatreez).

Wafa is the founder of the Tatreez Institute, specializing in Southwest Asian traditional fashion and embroidery. She is the author of Tatreez & Tea (2016) and Thobna (2023), with research published by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Gallery of Singapore. While she currently resides in Washington, DC, she grew up here in Milwaukie, Oregon.
