Strong-willed. Not willing to accept the choices put before them. I think this may be the biggest and possibly most misunderstood aspect of neurodivergent children. When you are a revolutionary artist, it comes with the territory (and is even the not understood,) but when a child is a budding mathematician, scientist, writer, or unusual mixture of unspecified subjects, of which they are still learning, thus can be very confusing for adults to understand. There’s so much in this movie I could talk about, but if you have a strong willed, out of the box thinker, the way these members of the ‘80’s band DEVO describe their thought process and what motivates them may shed light on what is in your child’s heart and mind on a deeper level. It’s not always this or that, but the other thing that is unique - and how for they explain that to the world? (While making it through school, and all the things that life requires.)

Stay tuned for my articles on high psychomotor drive and especially my discussion on gifted and neurodivergent girls. First and foremost, let’s not apply what we know about neurodivergent boys to girls. Stay tuned…..

“When Gus stood up and was so outwardly emotional, what I enjoyed seeing was the normalization of his actions. He didn’t second guess himself, especially being the son of a politician, he could have been raised to present in a certain manner. But clearly, the message he has gotten is to be himself.” Full article under Teresa’s Neurodivergent Musings, linked in bio.
