Attached please find the brochure (and website link) for the 13th Annual Plattekill Historical Preservation Society Golf Tournament, taking place on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland, New York. Our Annual Tournament holds special meaning for our organization as it has been permanently renamed the Memorial Shirley V. Anson Golf Tournament, honoring our founder and beloved Hudson Valley historian whose dedication helped shape and preserve our local heritage. It is also held in remembrance this year of a cherished member of our Plattekill family, Robert “Butch” John Anson, Sr., who passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026. He was an active and deeply respected member of the community, serving as a member of the Plattekill Historical Society, Plattekill Grange Master, Fire Police Chief of the Clintondale Fire Department, and a proud U.S. Veteran. His lifelong commitment to service, history, and community has left a lasting impact on all who knew him. In one of our final conversations, he expressed his hope that this tournament would continue well into the future. It is in that spirit that we warmly invite you to participate this year—honoring both his legacy and that of our founder.
Introducing the “Legendary Bob Award” Beginning this year, we are honored to introduce the “Legendary Bob Award”, a special award chosen and created in memory of Butch Anson and his lifelong best friend Bob Mertine (both passed away in 2026). Their enduring friendship, humor, and commitment to family community were well known throughout the
Hudson Valley. They were a familiar and beloved presence at our tournament each year — often seen on the golf course delivering beverages, sharing stories, and bringing laughter to golfers and volunteers alike. Their spirit helped define the heart of this event. This award will be presented annually to recognize individuals who embody the same qualities they lived by: friendship, generosity, service, and the ability to bring joy to those around them.

We remain committed to delivering a well-organized and enjoyable event in 2026, and we sincerely look forward to welcoming you. Restoration work and preservation initiatives remain ongoing, and every contribution directly supports our mission to protect, document, and share the rich history of Plattekill and the surrounding region.

Our free speaker series will resume in May 2026, and we are also excited to introduce a Memorial Brick Garden, where families and businesses will have the opportunity to purchase engraved bricks to honor loved ones and legacies.
