This one trick could save you thousands in interest payments on your credit cards
I help my clients make more money, protect their money, save their money and build their money. When I do this, the one area that has one of the quickest impacts is when I show them how to quickly pay down their debt without needing to consolidate or take out additional loans.
There are many techniques to do this and they go by several names, debt sn*******ng, debt avalanche, debt stacking...
Whatever you choose to follow, there is one very important thing you need to change in HOW you pay.
Most people today pay their bills online. Many of us set up automatic payments. When we do, there are some options that you can take. The first is to pay the minimum amount. With this chosen, the company will automatically take the minimum payment due. This is a good option as it allows the customer to satisfy the debt without incurring additional fees. HOWEVER, the company wants to be able to get as much money as possible from you via interest. So, what happens is that each time you make a payment, the minimum payment will go down (usually by only a couple dollars). However, this will extend the time you pay off the debt. Also, by the time you end up paying it off, your debt stacking schedule will be off.
So what is the one trick?
It is simple. Instead of using the option for the minimum payment, you want to use the 'fixed payment" option. So, if your current minimum payment is $25. You will set your payment to be $25 moving forward. Now, each time you make a payment, the amount will be fixed and you will pay off the debt quicker, which will save you money.
PLEASE NOTE: If you continue to use the credit card and your balance increases, you may need to change your fixed amount to match the minimum due!
