Wow! The first two days of Camp have been running smoothly! Everyone’s spending their time learning about public speaking tips, making impromptu speeches, practicing their skills in persuasion and debate, and having fun!

Congrats to Lena Lofgren (‘19) for her amazing achievements at NSDA Nationals in Dallas, Texas last month! Lena not only was a NSDA House Semifinalist but she also became one of only 63 members of the class of 2019 across the country to compete at nationals all 4 years of her S+D career! Look at her go!

Woo! Congrats to everyone who competed last weekend at the National Catholic Forensic League Grand Nationals in Milkwaukee, WI! This year, the team broke a record by bringing 14 competitors to nationals! Great job to Lena Lofgren ('19) who made it to finals in Congress, and the three teams ofAida Ruan (‘21) and Will Lee (‘20), Michael Lu ('20) and Lynnea Zhang ('19), and Jack Ding ('20) and Andrew Pak ('19) who made doubeloctofinals, octofinals and quarterfinals respectively in Policy Debate. The team also had the honor this year of bringing back the Eleanor D. Wright Award for Excellence in Debate, an achievement given to only 5 teams in the nation each year.

We have one last tournament, Nationals at NSDAs coming up soon, so wish Lena Lofgren and Jason Hu some luck!

Congrats to the team who competed last weekend at the Spartan Invitational at Southern Lehigh High School! The team place 3rd in Speech Sweepstakes, thanks to stellar performance by Emily Shor who championed in Declamation, Nina Li who placed 2nd in Original Oratory and 7th in Declamation, and Mei-Belle Sun who placed 5th in Dramatic Performance. Great job everyone!

Strath Haven's Speech and Debate camp is back! From August 5th to 8th, have your kids come in for a morning workshop of speech, debate, and public speaking! Anyone from 4th grade to 9th grade is welcome, and we have special curriculum designed for any returning students.

Rising 9th graders (who have competed in the middle school) can get a head start on the school year by coming to the afternoon sessions to work with current team members!

Great job to the team at PCFL finals and qualifiers for NCFL nationals last Saturday! This year, the team qualified a record breaking number of 14 people, including 7 first-time attendees! Congrats to the policy teams of Michael Lu and Lynnea Zhang, Jack Ding and Andrew Pak, Will Lee and Aida Ruan, our two PF teams of Ella Kane and Samah Sharmin, and Marie Lowry and Zaina Maqbool, as well as Lena Lofgren in Congress (our first 4-time competitor), Jason Hu in Extemp, Nina Li who auto-qualled in Oratory, and Emily Shor in Declamation. You'll be seeing us in Milwaukee in May!

The last PCFL of the year happened last weekend! The team swept it away, winning 1st in JV Congress Sweepstakes, 2nd in JV Debate Sweepstakes, 3rd place in JV Speech Sweepstakes, and 2nd place in Varsity Congress Sweepstakes! Great job to Mira Patel winning 1st in JV Congress, Jason Hu winning 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking, James and Mark Wang winning 3rd in JV Policy, George Li and Harry Yu winning 1st in JV Policy, Akshay Risbud and Jonah Shor winning 2nd in JV Public Forum, Lena Lofgren winning 1st in V Congressional Debate, Abhi Chakrabarti winning 3rd in Declamation, Mei-Belle Sun winning 1st in V Dramatic Performance, Ella Kane and Steven Shi winning 6th in V Public Forum, and Rahul Kaukuntla and Jackie Zheng winning 5th in V Public Forum! That was a very long sentence, but congrats team!
