👪 Behind every thriving family is an adult learner who chose to invest in their own education! 📚

Family Literacy is about so much more than academics—it’s about building confidence, creating connections, and taking time to invest in yourself. 📚✨

Our Family Literacy Parenting Class Spanish Community of Wallingford (SCOW) recently read the bilingual edition of Waiting for the Biblioburro by Monica Brown. Inspired by the true story of Luis Soriano Bohórquez delivering books by donkey in rural Colombia, our students practiced English and Spanish reading, comprehension, and sequencing skills while reflecting on the power of education.

During a classroom visit with our Director, Dr. Anthony Mangiafico, one student shared that this program gives her a dedicated space away from home to focus on her personal educational goals. Her story reminds us why accessible community programs matter so much.

A huge thank you to Family Literacy Coordinator Rosanne Bilodeau and our partners at SCOW for creating a supportive space where local adults can thrive!

Intergenerational learning in action: Family Literacy returns to Wallingford Public Schools!

We have big news for our community—Wallingford Adult Education is officially Connecticut’s 21st GED Testing Center! 👏

Even better? We are already celebrating our very first passing score! Huge congratulations to Natasha, who successfully passed her Social Studies exam during our very first testing session! 🎓🎉

Becoming an official GED Testing Center is all about removing barriers, expanding access, and making it easier for adult learners to earn high school credentials right here in our neighborhood.
A special thank you to Tom for his hard work and persistence in bringing this testing center to life, and to Kiara for proctoring this historic first session!

💻 📱 Technology is an essential key to unlocking new career and educational opportunities for everyone in our community—and Damaris Vega is living proof of what is possible! 💻 📱 🤖

Enrolled in Wallingford Adult Education’s Digital Literacy Skills class, Damaris set an extraordinary new benchmark by completing a record-breaking 12 modules in Northstar Digital Literacy—mastering everything from Basic Computer Skills, Gmail, and Internet to Google Docs and Microsoft Word.

Her goal? To secure a work-from-home position that allows her to provide for her family while being present for her children. With the flexibility of online learning, she was able to study on her own schedule without sacrificing time with her family.

In Damaris's own words:
"Life was difficult, but it's never too late to complete things you wish you could have in the past. I'm so happy to have found this program, and it makes achieving my goals possible from home with a busy mom schedule. The flexibility of this is the reason why I was able to do it so fast. I'm grateful for the program and the team as well. ...To anyone who wants to try this out, please do so. It's never too late."

Damaris's hard work shows that with supportive instructors and flexible options, your goals are always within reach. We could not be prouder of her dedication!

🍷🍾 Celebrating Community & Partnership! 🍷🍾

Wallingford Adult Education was proud to support the 14th Annual Latino W**emakers W**e Tasting, benefiting our wonderful partners at SCOW – Spanish Community of Wallingford.

Dr. Anthony Mangiafico joined Connecticut State Treasurer Erick Russell, Wallingford Councilwoman Melanie Rossacci, WAE Family Literacy Coordinator Rosanne Bilodeau, and 2025 WAE graduate and class speaker Omar Avila for a wonderful evening celebrating community and supporting SCOW’s important work.

SCOW is an invaluable partner to Wallingford Adult Education, providing a welcoming space for classes, supporting our Family Literacy efforts, and helping us connect students and families with opportunities and resources.

Thank you to the entire SCOW team for being such tremendous partners and for everything you do for the Wallingford community!

Would you rather train to take a test, or train for the job you want?

At Wallingford Adult Ed, we train CNAs and PCAs to what is expected on the job, in hospitals and long term care. Dementia is at an all time high. You will come away with a certificate in Dementia Care Training. Post surgical care for deep vein thrombosis, as well as EKG training will also be a part of your course.

Don't train for 20 year old test, train for the job, at Wallingford Adult Ed.
