Our first schoolwide outreach project will give our students and families a wonderful opportunity to “Be the Light” by sharing kindness, compassion, and Christ’s love with children around the world. This quarter, we are partnering with Lutheran World Relief (LWR) to provide school kits to children in need. LWR is a Christian organization dedicated to sharing God’s love by providing essential resources and support to people in communities around the world.

Here is a list of items needed for one kit:
4 spiral notebooks
1 ruler
1 pencil sharpener
1 pair of safety scissors
5 unsharpened pencils secured with rubber band
5 blue/black pens secured with rubber band
1 box of 24 crayons
1 large eraser

These school supplies may seem like simple items to us, but for a child who does not have the resources needed to attend school, receiving a School Kit can be a tremendous blessing and an encouragement to learn.

Our Goal: 200 School Kits!
We are asking our St. Matthew families to help us reach our goal of 200 bags. Many stores are currently running back-to-school sales, with several of the needed items priced at 50 cents or less. This is a great opportunity to stock up while also making a difference in the life of a child.

How can you help? Purchase items needed for the School Kits and bring your donations to school. Donation bins are placed outside each classroom, where students can easily drop off the items.

Mrs. Palka led opening Chapel for the 2026 - 2027 school year. She spoke about being the light of Jesus in our families, school, and communities. Then! Mrs. Palka had everyone put on an eye shade to experience darkness - and reminded us that Jesus is the Light of the World! He is always with each of us. 🥰

’Twas the night before the first day of school, and all through the halls,
God’s blessings are shining on our classrooms and walls.
The backpacks are packed, the smiles are bright,
And we’re praying for a school year that's filled with His light!

At 8:40 a.m., we’ll gather in the chapel with cheer,
With students in grades 1–8 dressed in their favorite chapel attire.
Parents are welcome to attend and join us in prayer,
As we ask God’s blessings and give thanks for His care.

And before you know it, the morning will fly—
A half day of school will be our goodbye!
With dismissal at 11:30 a.m. on the dot,
We’ll thank God for the blessings that our first day has brought.

So pack up your backpack and polish those shoes,
It's time to learn, grow and serve God in all that we do.
With faith in our hearts and God’s love shining bright,
Happy New School Year to all, and to all a good night!"
