Join us for Mosaic Maker’s Choice at Art Works! Studio in Walled Lake on Wednesday, September 16, from 1:30–4:30 PM.

This is a hands-on mosaic workshop with Bev Webb of Eye Candy Mosaics, designed so that each participant can create something unique rather than copying a single sample. You’ll work with color, texture, glass, and tile while learning the basics of building a mosaic piece.

No previous mosaic experience is needed.

The gold leaf may be my favorite finishing touch. ✨ I love how it catches the light against all those layered botanical textures. And every print comes out completely different—that surprise is such a big part of the fun of Gelli printing. 🌿

Late summer is already beginning its gradual turn toward autumn.

The light shifts, familiar rhythms return, and we may notice what has been quietly waiting for our attention.

In the newest Art Works! Studio Journal, I’m reflecting on how making art can become a way of returning—not to who we once were, but to what matters now.

The days are still warm. Gardens are still full, and the light still lingers into evening. Yet something has begun to turn. Mornings feel different. The angle of the sun shifts. What was recently growing toward fullness is beginning to ripen, loosen, and release.

Where in your life is balance asking to be restored?

As we approach the Autumn Equinox, we enter a season that holds two movements at once: gathering what has ripened and beginning to release what is complete.

In September’s Soul’s Seasons SoulCollage® gathering, we will use images, metaphor, poetry, and the intuitive cardmaking process to explore balance—not as a fixed state, but as a living relationship between holding and releasing, giving and receiving, activity and rest.

No previous SoulCollage® experience is needed. Each monthly gathering stands on its own, so you are welcome to enter the year at any point.

Let leaves, grasses, and flowers become printing tools.

Join teaching artist Julie Woodard for a morning of botanical Gelli printing at Art Works! Studio. We’ll use a gel plate, paint, and gathered plant materials to create layered prints filled with natural shapes, delicate details, and unexpected color.

Part of the pleasure of Gelli printing is discovery. Each pull from the plate reveals something a little different, and no two prints are ever exactly alike. You’ll have time to experiment with color, arrangement, layering, and negative space while creating a collection of original botanical papers and prints.

No printmaking experience is needed. Julie will guide you through the process, making this a welcoming workshop for beginners as well as experienced artists who would enjoy exploring a playful, flexible form of printmaking.

As August begins to lean toward September, I’m noticing the sunflowers, warm golds, and those first hints that the season is beginning to change.

Remember making potholders as a kid? These are not those tiny plastic-loop potholders. 🌿

Join us Friday afternoon for Seasonal Weaves, a relaxed 2-hour workshop using generous 10-inch looms and soft, repurposed 100% cotton loops in beautiful colors.

Weaving is simple, rhythmic, and surprisingly satisfying—wonderful for beginners, but just as enjoyable for experienced makers who want an easy afternoon of color and creativity.
