InventWorks | Kids College Session 2 🛠️📚

Thursday morning brought a little creativity, collaboration, and friendly competition to InventWorks!

Teams were challenged by Whitman Human Centered Design student scholars to design and build a table that could hold the most weight using only 20 newspapers, 10 zip ties, 10 rubber bands, and unlimited tape. With limited materials and unlimited imagination, students worked together to engineer their strongest designs, test their ideas, and problem-solve as a team.

The Newspaper Table Challenge was a great example of STEM in action—combining creativity, teamwork, engineering, and a little bit of trial and error!

Innovation comes in many forms—and our InventWorks students got to experience that firsthand on Day 2 of Session 2! 💡🌱

Today, our young inventors visited Perca, where they explored how science and innovative environmental solutions are helping create more sustainable approaches to wastewater treatment. Students learned how curiosity, engineering, and problem-solving can make a real impact on our communities.

Throughout the day, our InventWorks students were challenged to think differently, ask great questions, and discover that solving problems often requires collaboration, innovation, and thinking outside the box. Every experience encouraged them to explore new ideas, work together, and see challenges as opportunities for creative solutions.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible community partner, Perca, for welcoming our students and sharing your passion and expertise. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Human-Centered Design (HCD) students and faculty from Whitman College for mentoring our campers, encouraging creative thinking, and helping inspire the next generation of innovators. 🚀 Day 1 of Kids College InventWorks is officially underway!

Our young innovators kicked off Session 2 by diving into creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration. From imagining new possibilities to building their ideas, students are learning that great inventions start with curiosity and a willingness to try something new.

🎓🔬 Kids College 2026 — Session 1 Wrap-Up

Session 1 of Kids College 2026 has come to a close at WWCC, and what an amazing week it has been!

Students ages 9–13 spent five days exploring hands-on STEM learning through culinary science, environmental exploration, metallurgy, and the human body. The week ended with capstone showcases where students shared what they designed, built, tested, and discovered with their families and fellow classmates.

Throughout the week, students worked together, solved problems, asked great questions, and built confidence while having fun.

A big thank you to our instructors, student assistants, and families for making Session 1 such a success!

🎉 It's almost a wrap on Kids College 2026 – Session 1! 🎉

Today is Capstone Day, when our students share everything they accomplished with their family and friends. From new skills and hands-on projects to discoveries that sparked new interests, we have so much to celebrate!

Over the past week, our explorers gained knowledge, built confidence, solved problems, created amazing things, and—best of all—made new friendships along the way.

It's been an incredible week filled with curiosity, creativity, and laughter. We're so proud of everything our students achieved, and we're a little sad to see Session 1 come to an end.

Thank you to our wonderful instructors, assistants, volunteers, families, and, most importantly, our amazing Kids College students for making this such a memorable week. Have a fantastic summer—we hope to see you again soon! 💙💛
