Kaelyn Pyke is the first Black director in the history of Walla Walla Summer Theatre! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Say it again. FIRST đź‘ŹIn đź‘Ź the đź‘Źentire đź‘Ź history đź‘Ź of đź‘Ź this đź‘Ź theatre.

She is directing Godspell, and I got to photograph every single member of her cast at the studio.

Anyone who has spent five minutes around Kaelyn knows she was meant to lead. She directs with kindness. She makes room for people. She keeps community at the center of everything she touches, and you can feel it in how this cast carries themselves. They trust her. It shows up in the frame every time.

Go buy tickets!! Bring your people!! Fill those seats and let this theatre see exactly what magic will unfold!

You’ll walk away from Mongata on August 13 having actually photographed the Perseids. Not just watched them. Photographed them, with a glass of wine in you and Juan Aguilera’s settings still fresh in your head.

That’s the feeling we’re going for. Standing under a sky full of falling stars, camera in hand, knowing exactly what to do with it.

Juan Aguilera is walking you through everything before you ever step outside. Settings, composition, the whole thing. Then you get to point your camera at a sky doing something you’ve never seen before.

6:30 to 8:30, we’re inside with wine learning how to actually shoot the gorgeous meteor shower. 8:30 to 9:30, we’re outside under the Perseids putting it to use. All skill levels. All cameras.

$55 gets you in the door with a bottle of Mongata wine. Everything above $36 goes straight to Through the Lens, putting cameras in kids’ hands across the valley. Scholarship seats available, just reach out before you register. Link in bio!

Friday, September 25th. 6-8pm at Calliope Creative.

This class normally runs $100. This time it’s by donation, and every dollar goes straight to the Maxood FRAME Fund and the kids in our Through the Lens program.

Kristopher’s teaching you how to actually get the shot of your dog mid-zoomies instead of another blurry mess. All skill levels welcome, all cameras welcome, including your phone.

Show up, learn something, and put a kid in Milton-Freewater behind a camera for the first time. Link in bio.

Mini sessions. Saturday, September 26th at Calliope Creative.

20 minutes with Kristopher and your pet. $250. This is the session you keep meaning to book and keep putting off. Book it this time.

Downstairs at the studio I have Scarlet Red, and a Butter Yellow along with some fabric backdrops that, to be real, not my favorite to work with.

Calliope Creative was created with local creatives in mind so your vote actually really does matter.

This is Ezra. Whitman College student and Whitman Internship Grant recipient spending his summer at Calliope Creative.

First time directing a model in studio. 200 hours ahead of them. They came in nervous and left with shots they’re genuinely proud of.

Not because Ezra had the right gear. Not because they already knew what to do. Because they showed up and tried anyway.

Nine months. $15,000. No loans. WE DID IT WALLA WALLA!!!

We built Calliope Creative out of our own savings and the belief that this community deserved something real. Thursday it officially opens and we want you there.

Here’s what’s happening this week:

THURSDAY APRIL 2 -> GRAND OPENING
Ribbon cutting, celebration, and gift certificates at 30% off for one day only. Elopements included. Weddings excluded. Grab one.

Then stay for Nick Page’s very first art gallery reception. His work is on the walls and he deserves every single person who walks through that door. Come say hi. I love that guy.

FRIDAY APRIL 3 -> SEEING IN MONOCHROME
Our first ever guest instructor Art Fernandez is teaching a black and white photography workshop. Tickets still available. Do not sleep on this.

SATURDAY APRIL 5 -> FULL GALLERY DAY
Nick will be at the studio all day. Come talk art, photography, and cool things with him.

Come for one day. Come for all three. Just come!

Walla Walla made this possible. We are just the ones who refused to quit.
