Next fall planning for Virtual ParentCamp is already in the making. After looking at topics parents suggested during our past events, discussions on race, culture and diversity are at the top of that list. I'm excited to announce that Cam F. Awesome will be facilitating a discussion around these topics for ParentCampWW sometime in October.

Cam is an Emmy Nominated, 6 time USA National Champion, 4 time Golden Gloves National Champion, 2 Time Olympic Trials Champion Heavyweight boxer, and former Captain of the USA National boxing team. Cam Awesome is also a proud Member of the National Speakers Association. Cam is a diversity consultant whose overall goal is to address “the elephant in the room” in a way to create change, not place blame. He has facilitated for the National ParentCamp several times over the last year and we are excited to have him join us in the fall. Here's his reflection on a session he did earlier this year with National ParentCamp titled "A Not So Scary Talk About Race: The Impact Our Language Has On Those Around Us." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF8RZtj4iEU

Other sessions in the planning stages include: 1) opportunities to meet in a breakout room with your school principal and other families in your school to brainstorm different ways families and schools can partner together to promote academic and social/emotional success; be a voice in your school 2) Financial literacy discussions to bring ideas and support to families looking for ways to promote and encourage money sense in their children and household.
