A single Chinese athlete---a sprinter named Liu Chang Chun---participated in the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles. Liu carried in the Chinese flag by himself and competed in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints, failing to medal in either event. It took Liu a month to get to Los Angeles by ship for the games. He had no money himself and was given $1,000 at the last minute by his university and a Chinese flag to carry by the Chinese government. Before leaving he had no idea where America was.

The 1976 Tangshan earthquake, also known as the Great Tangshan earthquake, was a natural disaster resulting from a magnitude 7.6 earthquake that hit the region around Tangshan, Hebei, People's Republic of China on 28 July 1976, at 3:42 in the morning. In minutes, eighty-five percent of the buildings in Tangshan collapsed or were unusable, all services failed, and most of the highway and railway bridges collapsed or were seriously damaged. At least 242,000 people died, making this the third deadliest earthquake in recorded history.

The Beijing Olympic Village is a complex of high-rise apartments in Beijing, the People's Republic of China, which was opened to the public on July 27, 2008, and closed on August 27, 2008, in conjunction with the 2008 Summer Olympics. As an Olympic Village, it hosted the attendees, which included competitors and their coaches, during the event. The village consists of 660,000 sq m of land that will connect with the Olympic forest as well as the Olympic stadium. With that much space available there is also enough room for two media villages that can host up to 7,000 media personnel. The village had the ability to host over 16,000 athletes with enough space for social and athletic aspects.

Deep-sea Chinese submersible, the Jiaolong, had completed its test drive. Its three-man crew reached depths of over 5000 meters on July 26, 2011. The submersible spent over six hours underwater and returned to its mother ship. Jiaolong is a Chinese manned deep-sea research submersible that can dive to a depth of over 7,000 meters (23,000 ft). It has the second-greatest depth range of any manned research vehicle in the world.

On July 25, 1976, the Institute of Geomechanics of the Academy of Geological Sciences recently used the paleomagnetic method to determine the age of the ape-man in Yuanmou, Yunnan for the first time, which was about 1.7 million years ago, thus pushing forward the age of the earliest ape-man discovered in China in the past. More than 1 million years; at the same time, it was determined that the Yuanmou Formation was formed between 1.5 million and 3.1 million years ago, thus pushing the history of Quaternary geology forward by 2 million years.

On July 24, 1878, the Kaiping Mining Bureau was established and began to offer shares. In 1882, China Merchants invested 210,000 taels of silver in Kaiping Mining Bureau. This was the first local foreign investment of China Merchants after its opening. The Kaiping Mining Bureau not only solved the difficulty of using coal for China Merchants but also provided a large amount of coal for the Qing government's government-run enterprises and the Beiyang Fleet.

Although their coffins had collapsed, Liu Sheng and Dou Wan were each found in a well-preserved jade suit. Liu Sheng's was made of 2498 pieces of jade, sewn together with two and a half pounds of gold wire (Dou Wan's was smaller). Each suite consists of 12 sections: face, head, front, and back parts of tunic, arms, gloves, leggings, and feet. It has been estimated that a suit such as Liu Sheng's would have taken ten years to fashion. Along with the jade suits, Liu Sheng and Dou Wan each had a gilt bronze headrest inlaid with jade and held jade crescents in their hands. It was on this day that this jade suit was discovered.
