Yesterday marked two years since we lost our beloved DeSales graduate, classmate, teammate, and friend, Sean Stonecipher-Sollars, Class of 2024.

Today, our DeSales community gathered in prayer and celebrated Mass for the repose of Sean’s soul. As we came together, we were reminded that although Sean’s time with us was far too short, the impact he made on the lives of so many continues to live on.

Sean loved his family, his friends, his faith, his community, and his DeSales family. He embraced life with an unmistakable enthusiasm and brought his own unique humor, confidence, kindness, and compassion to everything he did. A dedicated three-sport athlete, a young man who dreamed of farming, and someone who never hesitated to lend a hand, Sean had a remarkable way of making people feel known and valued. Most importantly, his Catholic faith was an important part of who he was and the foundation of the life he lived.

We are especially grateful to Sean’s parents, Suzie and Joe, and to all who joined us for today’s Mass. Thank you for allowing our DeSales community to continue to remember, honor, and pray for Sean alongside you. Your presence was a beautiful reminder that the bonds formed at DeSales extend far beyond graduation.

As we remember Sean, we pray that God continues to welcome him into His eternal embrace and gives comfort and peace to all who carry his memory in their hearts. Sean will always be a part of the DeSales family. We remember. We pray. We love. We carry him with us.

Monday marked Assumption's first All-School Assembly of the school year, and Mrs. Naftzger and Mrs. Jimenez kicked things off with a fun way for our students to get to know some of the wonderful people who make Assumption such a special place!

Faculty and staff submitted baby pictures, and our students had the challenging (and sometimes hilarious!) task of guessing who was who. Once each mystery staff member was revealed, students learned a little more about them through questions about favorite sports, restaurants, travel destinations, and more.

And we have to give an honorable mention to Fr. Lewis, whose answer to his favorite candy was simply, “Whatever is right in front of me!”

We are so grateful for the creativity and thoughtfulness of our Assumption faculty and staff—and for our students, who are always up for a good challenge! What a fun way to start a new year together.

Growing Minds—and Plants!

DeSales Biology students have accepted the challenge of keeping a plant alive and flourishing for the entire school year!

Students began by researching their plants and learning about their specific needs. Now comes the hands-on part: caring for their plants and putting their new knowledge to work.

We’re looking forward to seeing which plants thrive throughout the school year!

Welcome Back, Irish!

There’s something pretty special about welcoming students back to Walla Walla Catholic Schools, but today was extra special for a few members of our faculty and staff!

We’re excited to wish a happy first day of school to three WWCS alumni who are joining our team this year:
✨ Ms. Brinson: 3rd Grade Teacher at Assumption
✨ Mrs. Hanzeli: Student Services at Assumption, 7th Grade English & Middle School Electives at DeSales
✨ Mr. Richard: History & Physical Education at DeSales

They once walked our hallways as students, and now they’re back helping shape the next generation of Irish students. We couldn’t be more excited to have them home! Catholic education really is something special.

We’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks about our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Bohm, and our new WWCS President and Priest, Fr. Lewis, so stay tuned!

Here’s to a new school year—and welcoming our Irish home! ☘️

This beautiful new court will soon be filled with the energy, determination, and school spirit of our Irish students as they take the floor for the 2026–2027 season. We can't wait to see the memories that will be made here!

A very special thank you to Prewitt Woodworking for their outstanding craftsmanship, professionalism, and dedication to this project. Your expertise has given our students and school community a space they can be proud of for years to come.

🎓Senior Spotlight: Anakin Houchin🎓

For the past nine years, Anakin Houchin has been a valued part of the Walla Walla Catholic Schools community, making the most of opportunities both in the classroom and through athletics and activities. We are honored to celebrate him and the rest of the Class of 2026 tomorrow at graduation! During his time at DeSales, Anakin participated in football, track, and Knowledge Bowl, while also pursuing his passion for ice hockey with the Tri-Cities program outside of school.

One of Anakin’s favorite memories from his years at WWCS was winning the State Football Championship this year and experiencing all of the moments throughout the season that made that accomplishment possible. From the hard work and dedication to the friendships and team camaraderie, it was a season filled with memories he will carry with him long after graduation.

Following graduation, Anakin plans to attend Gonzaga University, where he will major in History. He also plans to continue his hockey career by trying out for Gonzaga’s club hockey team.

As he reflects on his educational journey, Anakin would like to thank his parents, teachers, and coaches for their support and encouragement throughout the years. He would also like to give special thanks to Dr. Valente for helping him discover his love for history, particularly through her AP European History class last year.

We congratulate Anakin on all he has accomplished and wish him continued success and many blessings as he begins this exciting new chapter. 🍀💚

🎓 Senior Spotlight: Matthew Beck 🎓

Having been a part of the Walla Walla Catholic Schools family since preschool, Matthew Beck has spent his years at WWCS building friendships, making memories, and contributing to the WWCS community and we are thrilled to celebrate him and the Class of 2026 at graduation this weekend! During his time at DeSales, Matthew participated in golf, Knowledge Bowl, and football, balancing academics and athletics while representing the Irish with pride.

When asked about a favorite memory from his years at WWCS, Matthew kept it simple: Mr. Fazzari’s class. Sometimes it’s the everyday moments, great teachers, and memorable classroom experiences that leave the biggest impact.

After graduation, Matthew plans to attend Gonzaga University, where he will study Civil Engineering and continue pursuing his academic goals.

As for words of gratitude as he completes his K–12 journey, Matthew offered a brief but meaningful message: “Thank you.” A man of few words, but appreciation often says the most in the simplest way.

We congratulate Matthew on all he has accomplished and wish him continued success and many blessings as he begins this exciting next chapter. 💚🍀
