The Climbing Center will be cloed for open recreation on Saturday, April 23, 2022 since we will be hosting the Sweet Onion Crank Climbing competition which is part of the NC3 (Northwest Collegiate Climbing Competitions) Circuit.

The climbing center will be open on Sunday April 24, 2022 for open recreation from 2-6pm. The wall is now allowing visitors on Saturdays and Sundays. Covid vaccination and masks required.

The 2021 Sweet Onion Crank has begun!

Unlike most Cranks, this year's student-organized climbing competition is only open to Whitman College students and will run for three weeks (April, 11th - 30th) to give climbers the ability to project as many routes as possible while our facility's capacity remains low.

To compete, simply register for an open climb slot via the link on our website, ask for a scorecard at the front desk, and log any five climbs. Once you've returned your scorecard, you'll receive a tank top from last spring's cancelled competition (while supplies last) and be entered into a raffle to win some climbing-themed prizes. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three finishers in each category (Recreational, Advanced, and Open).

Our setters have worked hard to create fun climbs for all ability levels, and we encourage all Whitman students to compete in this low-stress competition. No climbing experience necessary.

The Climbing Center is now open to students!

Here's how Whitman students can start climbing:

1. Request Access

Visit: https://forms.gle/8vks9vnn8pqjWWSb6 to complete form.

2. Receive your approval email.

3. Start completing the Daily Wellness Check through the Everbridge app

To Climb at the Climbing Center:

1. Schedule an available 1 hour climbing session (See approval email from Brien Sheedy for the scheduling tool)

2. Show up at Climbing Center at your scheduled appointment time. (Do not come to the wall without an appointment)

3. Have your approval-to be-on-campus badge ready (via Everbridge App, text, or email)

Create a new survey on your own or with others at the same time. Choose from a variety of survey types and analyze results in Google Forms. Free from Google.

Dear Whitman College Climbing Center users,

We are all facing unprecedented questions and challenges surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Whitman College believes that together, we can all make responsible decisions that will help slow the spread of the virus. The Climbing Center is doing its part, effective March 14, the Climbing Center will be closed until further notice.

The Whitman College Climbing Center is more than just a gym, it is a place for us to meet old friends and make new ones, relieve stress, and strengthen our bodies and minds. We understand that in difficult times, it is even more important for us to seek this type of well being, which makes this decision even more difficult. Ultimately, we have a responsibility to help protect the health of our community and believe that a closure is the most responsible next step we can take.
