Margaret Meister '86 was named a 2026 Most Admired CEO by the Puget Sound Business Journal. With 38 years of experience at Symetra, Meister's career journey took her from an actuarial student to becoming the company's first female President and CEO in February 2018.

John “Jack” Rasmussen '71 is the recipient of the Sally Rogers Award for Lifelong Achievement, presented by the Whitman Alumni Association. 🎉

Nominated by classmates Bev Quested '71 and Jay Jackson '71, Jack is celebrated for dedicating his career to the arts and bringing extraordinary leadership to the art world. He studied art at Whitman and went on to earn an MFA in painting, master's degrees in anthropology and arts management, and a doctorate in anthropological linguistics.

Throughout his career, Jack has consistently found a home in alternative art spaces, maintaining a deep commitment to the regional art community. He has held various leadership roles, including serving as the Executive Director of both the Maryland Art Place and the di Rosa Preserve. He also helped conceive and launch the Rockville Arts Place, serving as its first executive director. Today, Jack continues his dedication to the arts as the director and curator of the American University’s Katzen Art Center, having also previously served as the university's associate director of development.

All along, Jack has stayed deeply connected to his Whitman roots; he has brought his artistic vision back to Walla Walla by organizing and overseeing a special alumni art review for his 50th reunion.

The Sally Rodgers Award for Lifelong Achievement, created in 1999 to honor Sally Rodgers, long-time director of alumni relations, is given to an individual who graduated from Whitman College over 50 years ago and whose life exemplifies the qualities of a liberal arts education.

Mary Raschko is the recipient of the Faculty Award for Service to the Alumni Association, presented by Whitman's Alumni Association. 🎊

As the Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Associate Professor of English at Whitman College, Mary plays an important role in connecting campus academic life with the alumni community. She manages faculty development funds and partners with Development and Alumni Relations to identifying traveling professors to host regional gatherings, while also sustaining virtual lectures and curating faculty leaders for international alumni trips to destinations like Andalusia, Iceland and Egypt.

To support Whitman College as a whole, Mary supports faculty by providing grant opportunities and co-administering a $1.5 million Mellon Foundation grant focused on indigeneity, immigration, and incarceration. Lastly, Mary has recently joined President Sarah Bolton on the road to engage directly with alumni and parents about Whitman's commitment to transformative student experiences.

Welcome home, Class of 2030 💙🎉

On Wednesday, Aug 26, Whitman College welcomed over 420 first-year students which includes 90 student-athletes and over 40 transfer students–coming from 36 states and 40 countries and tribal nations to officially join the supportive and collaborative Whitman community.

Dean of Students Kazi Joshua echoed the message to create a community of belonging during the Convocation ceremony in Cordiner Hall Thursday, Aug 27, “Everyone is part of the community and contributes to the making of an inclusive community.”

Here’s to the beginning of new friendships, new adventures and countless opportunities to learn, grow and make Whitman your own.

Welcome, Dr. Etasha Bhatt ’09, the newest Whitman College Alumni Board Member 🎉.

Dr. Bhatt earned her degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology, where she developed an appreciation for scientific inquiry through undergraduate research and close faculty mentorship before going on to become an orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgeon at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Minnesota.

As a Whitman alum, she continues to give back through her unwavering support for prospective students through the admissions process.

Now, serving as a member of the Alumni Board, Dr. Bhatt hopes to enhance alumni engagement and create opportunities for alumni to mentor and support current students, particularly those exploring medicine and the health professions.
