United Way of Blue Mountain Elevate Program Launches Five-Week Family Academy Series

The United Way of Blue Mountain’s Elevate program is launching a five-week Family Academy series designed to help families of students in grades 9-12 navigate the path to high school graduation and prepare for life after high school.

The first session will be held Thursday, September 10, from 5:30-8 p.m. All students and families with students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate.

Family Academy sessions will provide valuable information and support on topics including graduation requirements, post-high school options, financial aid and college applications. WWPS Showcases Student Learning at the 2026 Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days!

Walla Walla Public Schools is proud to be part of the 2026 Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days and thanks all of the WWPS Building Fair Coordinators who worked hard to create engaging displays in the Education Building. Their efforts do a wonderful job showcasing student work and highlighting the accomplishments of students across the district for fairgoers to enjoy.

The fair runs Sept. 2–6, and WWPS is excited to join the community in celebrating this annual tradition. The Education Building will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., featuring displays that highlight programs, learning opportunities, and student achievements from across the valley.

WWPS will also host an information station in front of the Education Building from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. Families and community members are encouraged to stop by to learn more about local schools, ask questions, and explore resources and opportunities that support student success.

A special thank-you goes to Ashley Escalante, Fair Superintendent for the Education Building, for coordinating these efforts and helping make WWPS's presence at the fair a success.

We look forward to seeing students, families and community members at the 2026 Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days!

In July, Walla Walla High School senior Sofia Camacho-Salazar traveled to Washington, D.C., to participate in the Youth Leadership Summit (YLS), hosted by the National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (NCCEP) as part of its annual GEAR UP conference.

The YLS brings together approximately 150 GEAR UP students from across the country for 3½ days of intensive leadership development, collaboration and skill-building. The experience culminates in a student-led presentation to more than 2,000 GEAR UP conference attendees.

Throughout the summit, students strengthen their public speaking, systems-thinking and leadership skills while working alongside peers from communities across the nation. The experience provides students with an opportunity to develop their voices, build confidence and gain a broader perspective on education and the issues affecting students.

Congratulations to Sofia on representing Walla Walla High School at this outstanding national leadership opportunity!
