The Refinery

The Refinery is a nonprofit community pottery and art studio offering workshops, classes, studio memberships, and a retail shop featuring local artists.

Our goal is to create diverse art experiences and nurture artists at all skill levels.

Get a double-helping of clay in our October Halloween Sgrafitto class. 🐈‍⬛ 🌕

Taught by Cait Olson, this class is one week of making and one week learning how to do Sgrafitto. In this technique, slip or underglaze is painted into the still-damp surface of the clay. Tools are then used to carve the piece and reveal the raw clay beneath.

We are excited to introduce our newest instructor, Cait Olson

Caitlin Olson is an artist that creates imaginative sculptural forms and illustrations inspired by animals and nature with a style that blends playful characters with texture, color and mark-making. Working primarily in clay or pen & ink, she enjoys making pieces that bring a little personality and humor into people’s homes.

Outside the studio, Cait works in higher education as an instructional designer. When she’s not making art or working, you’ll likely find her spending time with family, hanging out with her dogs, or enjoying the outdoors.

Cait is teaching our upcoming 4-Week Hand Building class. There are still spaces available, so check out the link in our bio sign up to take a class with her!

Our open house is happening now! Come visit for wonderful treats from Walla Walla Bake Shop, play with clay with Marriam Motamedi, shop pieces donated by our members, and take a photo with a young Mr. Swayze! Also find out more about our nonprofit programming!
