A colleague recently recommended a series of videos about Music and the Brain by Dr. Molly Gebrian, which I have found to be revolutionary in my teaching!

I recommend her 5-Part video series for anyone who is serious about playing better. The sub-topics in her series What Musicians Can Learn About Practicing from Current Brain Research:

1. The Brain/Learning Basics
2. Structuring Your Practice Time: Blocked vs. Random Practice
3. How to Use a Metronome (I can guarantee you'll learn something from this one.)
4. Sleep and Learning
5. Mental Practicing

These videos are becoming required listening for my students (middle and high school and some adult amateurs). I can't wait to see the results in the coming weeks and months.

I'm working on finishing my UMTC (Ultimate Music Theory Certification), which will demonstrate that I've completed their rigorous (and very helpful) teacher training program.

I just saved 5 points on my Advanced Rudiments Lesson 7 Review Test by rereading the directions for Question #2.

How are your music theory assignments coming?
