JAG students took a tour of Northshore Technical Community College that's located near Walker High school, to explore what opportunities might be afforded to them through the school’s many completion and certification programs.
Dr. Leader who's the Dean, gave our students a tour of the facility, informed them of the various classes offered, but most of all let them know that Northshore will assist them within their educational journey wether they enroll or not.
Programs and certifications such as CNA, welding, electrician, IT, heavy equipment operator, CDL licensing, linemen operations, etc. were discussed with our students.
Our mission within JAG is to broaden our students minds to the various opportunities that are available to them.

😍🍕 PIZZA....PIZZA🍕❤️
Our JAG kiddos who have been helping with Papa John's this semester got to put their training to the ultimate demonstration. We invited our sweet SDA students to our classroom to give them a tour, show them the process of pizza making from setting up the boxes, to pizza prep, to putting them in the oven, to putting the pizzas in the boxes, to distributing them out. They even got to make their own pizza. It was the best day ever! Such a huge thank you to Papa John's for allowing our JAG kiddos the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, to grow in becoming better employees, and to help make better leaders. 🥰🍕

A few of our JAG kiddos had a blast behind the scenes serving others on Homecoming night. Once again, we are so thankful for PJ's Coffee for allowing our JAG program to partner with them and help students gain experience in the workplace to better prepare them for the future. We are also so thankful to the students who love PJ's Coffee just as much as we do ❤️
Thank you Ms. Stephanie Cambre !! We love your support and your heart to teach and serve others.
(We even had a special guest who jumped in, dress and all...lol)

This weekend, some of our WHS JAG program students volunteered their time to help raise funds for future career development activities, by practicing skills that are taught within our JAG program.
Our Jobs for America's Graduates classes partnered with Belk department store, not only to raise funds, but to provide students with opportunities to gain first hand experience outside of the classroom. Students worked on soft skills such as eye-to-eye contact, firm handshaking, semi professional dress, and holding business conversations with adults.
Students in the WHS JAG program are being taught, not only the aforementioned soft skills, but they are being exposed to their specific career of interest by taking exploration trips to companies, colleges, and local municipalities.
On our final day of fundraising, our students received praise from Belk customers because of their professionalism and knowledge of our JAG program.
Additionally, Belk managers committed themselves to helping our program by making classroom visits to explain the more than thirteen employment opportunities within the company.
Once the classroom presentations are accomplished, students who are interested, will visit the store for a more detailed explanation of each department.
Thanks to those students who helped our program this weekend.
GO JAG! 💛💚

On Monday, a few of our JAG students had the honor of working alongside students with disabilities at Walker Jr. High School during their pumpkin carving activity.
We have partnered with the Walker Jr. High SDA students in order to assist with their planned activities and projects, in and outside of the classroom.
This mentoring opportunity gives WHS JAG students another perspective of how being empathetic opens the door to a wider understanding of how to connect. This also helps make them better students, employees, leaders, and human beings ❤️
We are so thankful Walker Jr. High is allowing our students to learn what it means to put self aside and to serve in our community.

On October 23rd, a few of our JAG students went on a field trip to the “Build Your Future Career Expo” in Gonzales, located at the Lamar Dixon Center.
Students were able to speak to industry professionals about opportunities within their company and learn about current industry trends as well as steps they could take with moving forward with connecting with specific industries.
Companies were also encouraged to come and speak to our students within our JAG classroom for a more in-depth discussion concerning how important soft skills are in relation to the hiring process.
Our goal in JAG is to organize field trips that are planned towards students who have interest within a specific career field, which lends to smaller groups and a more focused experience.

We cannot thank Look At Me 4D Imaging enough for such an incredible opportunity given to a group of our students on yesterday. Six young ladies were invited to join Ms. Anna in a "day-in-the-life" of being an ultrasound technician. She was AMAZING. The young ladies got to hear first-hand what it is like to be an ultrasound technician, what the various areas of ultrasound tech are, what schooling is like, what the day-in and day-out of both a hospital pace/setting and physicians office setting/pace is like, and were even blessed enough to see an actual scan (thank you to the sweetest soon to be mom who gave permission to share her baby girl's profile picture). They learned what to look for, got to identify all the sweet baby fingers and toes, the sweet little heart and hear it beat, learned how to measure the heart rate, how to measure things like the femur to determine estimated due date, and so much more. My girls are still talking about it today and have an even bigger drive to go into this field now. ❤️🙌

A HUGE thank you to Ms. Cambre and her students for allowing us to join them in this day of kindness.

On Wednesday, October 1, six of our Career Association Leaders took a trip to Marksville, LA for the JAG-LA Student Leadership Conference. The six leaders included: our two Presidents, Chyna Lyles and Hayleigh Mayer; Secretary, Tristen Johns; Vice President of Leadership Development, Sharon Johnson; Vice President of Social Awareness, Heaven Wainwright; and Vice President of Social Media and Marketing, Lexi Buuck. Our leaders were not only able to meet other JAG Career Association leaders, our Louisiana JAG State Officers, our National JAG President Austin C. Small , but the National JAG CEO and President Janelle Duray as well. JAG members were able to share ideas with other JAG members about JAG, how to continue to grow our program, and how to continue to keep putting our best foot forward. These members represented Walker High School, JAG, and themselves with abundant grace, kindess, and resepct. We are so proud of each of them and so grateful for the opportunities given.
"During the conference I was introduced to a lot of leaders that have been in the program for a long time [3-4 years] and even some that were also first year members. The main thing I learned about myself was that I am not a shy person at all. I loved meeting the new people and sharing the different involvements that we all have done so far in our first year! Everyone was so nice and welcoming whilst not even knowing each other that the atmosphere felt as if we all knew each other prior. During the activities that we did, we learned how to better communicate with our peers vocally and silently. I met some amazing presidents that are so outgoing and confident within themselves and the program. I exchanged socials with a few people to stay in contact to share the different community service, leadership, and social awareness activities that we all do that could be beneficial for each other’s schools. The National JAG President, Austin Small, is such an amazing leader and the advice he gave us really inspired me to want to actually do more instead of the bare minimum. I would love to meet him again alongside the JAG State President. The lunch was a very fun experience- we met a new specialist, Mrs. Englade from Prairieville High School, who is friends with Mrs.Achord, when the specialists had to go to another table for the ‘Parliamentary Procedure Quiz’. She was such a nice lady and I hope to meet her again. Seeing all the leaders (CEO & President of JAG, National JAG President, State Officers, etc.) and hearing their stories was a very special and inspiring moment to me because it taught me to always look forward even if life isn’t going how you wish it would. I plan to take this to our JAG program and help the other students realize this for themselves while helping them better their future and represent JAG to the fullest." - Chyna Lyles, WHS JAG President
"There are so many things that stood out to me while going to this conference, I met so many new people and met some very important people. One thing I took with me from this experience is that I'm not as awkward and shy as I thought I was, being there I was able to talk and meet so many people who made me feel like I matter. During the activities we did I was able to make new friends and build friendships with people who have the same goals as me, because who you surround yourself with does matter! I was also able to see the state officers who I do look up to so much. The president is very outgoing and cares about our futures, he was so great and someone I will want to meet again. The lunch was also a great experience. I loved meeting a new amazing specialist, Ms. Englade from Prairieville High, and doing an activity with her. Seeing the JAG CEO & President, Janelle Duray, and the National JAG President, Austin Small, was special to me because I feel as if it shows me I have a future in JAG and I will take it with me out of high school. Austin inspired me a lot and meeting him was a great experience because he really does care about every single one of us. I want to take this with me in the future and represent all of our jag students." - Hayleigh Mayer, WHS JAG President

During a recent tour of Gator Millworks, Walker High JAG and mentorship students took a tour of their milling facility which was organized by the Livingston Parish career and technical education (CTE ) department.
These students were exposed to different types of equipment and materials that are used at the facility to make cabinetry and other design work for commercial and residential purposes.
Having such a CTE coordinator such as Miss Desselle, who’s forward thinking in regard to industry and our school system, gives our students first hand choices concerning options while in, or after graduating from high school.
Our Walker High Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) and mentorship program, is moving forward with numerous technical job opportunities, because of the CTE department and their commitment to our students.
Walker High thanks you…….

September 30th was an exciting day for our JAG students. The day was filled with excitement as they were able to visit three businesses in one day. Prior to visiting these businesses, students conducted research focusing on the owner, year established, differences in their industry fields, and how each business serves the community through their work.
The businesses visited within the Denham Springs area were The Floor Store Carpet One Floor & Home , Randazzo's Italian Market , Changing Faces Barber Shop and Hair Salon . The common theme throughout all of the businesses was “not to chase the money”, but to “serve the community.”
Go JAG!!!
