The Wales Senior Center, at 85 Main Street in Wales, provides a range of programs and services designed to meet the needs of the senior citizens in the Town. This includes lunches served every Tuesday and Thursday, prepared in the commercial kitchen located in the center. After years of use this space needs some upgrades, including new flooring. At the recommendation of Selectman Michael Valanzola, the Norcross Wildlife Foundation is providing part of its annual gift to the Town with a $5,000 donation to help with these improvements.

Pictured here on the left is Dr. Caro Munoz Agudelo, Director of Public Programs and Research at Norcross. She works with organizations such as the Tantasqua School District, the Library and Senior Center to provide educational programs and activities. Next are Senior Center Lead Cook Darleen Gilley, Senior Center Director Cheri Fisher, and Selectman Valanzola.

For more information on the Wales Senior Center please see their list of services at https://www.townofwales.net/325/Services, or contact Cheri Fisher at 413-245-9683.

We were pleased to collaborate with Mass Audubon and Native Plant Trust on ā€œHarvesting the Landscapeā€, a hands-on workshop exploring the world of native edible plants. Experts in the field of ecology and edible native plants including our Director of Applied Ecology Dan Wilder, a well-known local expert in native edible plants, and Russ Cohen came together to share their knowledge at the Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary in Cummaquid, MA. We always appreciate the opportunity to share our passion for supporting native species through sustainable foraging and to collaborate with our long-standing partners at Mass Audubon and Native Plant Trust.

Hi Norcross friends!

Last Saturday, July 25th was our first ever Moth Ball, and we were absolutely thrilled to see so many familiar and new faces exploring, learning, and having fun together. We are so grateful for the wonderful community that made this event truly special.

From insect origami, to live music, seed bomb making, and amazing research presentations, there was something for everyone to enjoy!

Big thanks to Adam Kohl for his amazing light-and-sheet set up at our Moth Ball. His passion and expertise were certainly the highlight of our night! A big shout out to our friends at Opacum Land Trust for collaborating with us to make this celebration possible. And of course, a huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the evening of the 25th. Events like this remind us why community and conservation go hand in hand. We can’t wait to see you at the next one!

Here at Norcross, our interns have been hard at work collecting macroinvertebrate samples as part of the Vinica Brook Restoration, the largest freshwater restoration project in the region! Norcross staff and interns are helping to document the aquatic life of the Vinica Brook watershed before restoration begins.

We’re incredibly grateful for the work our interns do as we build a comprehensive baseline of the watershed's biodiversity to measure the ecological benefits of this landmark restoration for years to come. A big thanks to Audrey, May, Sam, Nathan, Calvin, and Brennan!
