The Massachusetts Music Educators' Association Northeastern District invites educators from the New England area to join us for a full-day Conducting and Rehearsal Techniques Workshop with Dr. Peter Boonshaft on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Belmont Middle & High School.

Join us for a full-day Conducting and Rehearsal Techniques Workshop with Dr. Peter Boonshaft, one of the country’s most respected music educators, conductors, and clinicians!

Instrumental music educators will make music together in a clinic ensemble while exploring effective rehearsal strategies, conducting techniques, and musical communication. Participants will also have opportunities to take the podium, conduct selected works, and receive individualized coaching and real-time feedback from Dr. Boonshaft.

About the Workshop

Dr. Peter Boonshaft, Professor Emeritus of Music at Hofstra University, is a nationally recognized conductor, clinician, and author of the acclaimed books Teaching Music with Passion, Teaching Music with Purpose, and Teaching Music with Promise.

Open to instrumental musicians and educators in strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion, this interactive workshop offers practical approaches to strengthening ensemble performance and student engagement.

Participants should bring an instrument and will perform throughout the day as members of the clinic ensemble. Through demonstrations, collaborative music-making, and podium opportunities, attendees will gain strategies they can immediately apply to their own teaching and conducting.

Participants should bring an instrument and will perform throughout the day as members of the clinic ensemble. Dr. Boonshaft will use the ensemble to model effective rehearsal strategies, conducting techniques, musical communication, and approaches for helping students connect more deeply with the music they perform.

Participants will also be invited to step onto the podium to conduct selected works and receive immediate feedback and coaching from Dr. Boonshaft.

Our goal is for every participant to leave with practical ideas and techniques that can be brought directly back to their students and ensembles.

We are honored to welcome Dr. Rollo A. Dilworth as our 2026 Summer Chorus Featured Conductor! This chorus is open to 2nd through 12th grade students who love to sing! There will be opportunities for older singers to take on leadership roles. We will also perform the National Anthem at Fenway Park to open the Red Sox game on August 9th.
