As we celebrate the end of the school year, the Wakefield Police Department, Wakefield Public Schools, Northeast Metro Tech, and Wake-UP encourage students and families to celebrate safely and responsibly.

Alcohol and other substances can have serious impacts on teens’ health, judgment, and future opportunities. Under Massachusetts Social Host Law, adults can face criminal and civil consequences for allowing underage drinking in their homes.

Parents and caregivers can help by:
• Knowing their teen’s plans and supervising celebrations
• Setting clear expectations and curfews
• Securing alcohol, cannabis, and medications
• Providing safe, substance-free environments

Students should:
• Never ride with someone under the influence
• Avoid alcohol, cannabis, and illegal substances if under 21
• Call 911 if someone’s safety is at risk

Let’s work together to make this celebration season safe, positive, and memorable for everyone. If you need assistance, call 911 for emergencies or Wakefield Police at (781) 245-1212 for non-emergencies.

A spotlight on the WMHS Senior Internship Program!

It’s great to see our students out in the community gaining real-world experience and learning from local professionals.

• Nico Livesey is interning at Ashland Commercial Construction in Peabody.
• Devin DeBernardinis is working with the team at HDPT Physical Therapy in Wakefield.
• Marco Joaquim is gaining experience at B&S Gillis Insurance in Peabody.
• Bella Sousa is interning at Pink Elephant, LLC, a painting. contractor in Peabody.

We’re proud of these students for taking advantage of these opportunities and representing WHS so well!

The WMHS Student Internship Program gives high school seniors the opportunity to gain real-world career experience through partnerships with local businesses and organizations. Students participate in internships across a variety of industries while learning valuable professional skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, interviewing, and workplace etiquette.

The program begins in early spring and continues through the remainder of the school year, allowing students to build meaningful experience and professional relationships over an extended period of time.

Before beginning their placements, students complete preparation activities focused on resume writing, interview skills, professional communication, and workplace expectations to help ensure they are ready to succeed in a professional environment.

The program benefits both students and the community. Students explore potential career paths, build confidence, and develop workforce skills, while local businesses have the opportunity to mentor young professionals, connect with future talent, and strengthen ties with Wakefield Memorial High School and the broader community.

Through collaboration between schools and local employers, the internship program helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience.
