Happy Drink Chenin Blanc Day.

Happy World Verdejo Day.

Verdejo is one of Spain’s most important white grapes, yet many w**e drinkers have never experienced it.

Originally from Rueda, Verdejo produces w**es that are crisp, refreshing, and aromatic with notes of citrus, green apple, pear, herbs, and flowers. Its bright acidity and food-friendly nature make it an excellent choice for everything from seafood and salads to Mediterranean-inspired dishes.

If you enjoy Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio, Verdejo may be your next favorite white w**e.

W**e tasting is not a vocabulary test. You do not need to identify blackberry preserves, crushed violets, wet slate, or any other highly specific aroma to enjoy w**e.

Start with what you notice. Is the w**e fruity? Floral? Herbal? Spicy? Earthy? Those observations are just as meaningful and often much more useful when you are building confidence.

The more w**es you taste, the more your vocabulary will naturally grow. There is no prize for being the most descriptive person at the table. The goal is to pay attention and enjoy the experience.

Aroma and flavor are closely connected, but they are not the same thing.

Aroma is what you smell.

Taste is what your tongue detects: sweetness, acidity, bitterness, saltiness, and umami.

Flavor is the combination of both.

In fact, your sense of smell provides most of the specific characteristics you identify in w**e.
That is why a w**e can seem less expressive when you have a cold.

The next time you pour a glass, slow down and spend a few extra seconds smelling before you take a sip. You may discover aromas and flavors you never noticed before.

W**E TIP WEDNESDAY

One of the biggest misconceptions about w**e tasting is that you need to identify every aroma perfectly. You don’t. Most experienced tasters begin by identifying broad categories such as fruit, floral, herbal, earthy, or spice aromas before narrowing down specific notes.

If you smell fruit but can’t decide whether it’s blackberry, black cherry, or plum, that’s completely normal. W**e tasting is a skill developed through practice, not a talent people are born with.

The goal isn’t to be right. The goal is to pay attention. Every glass helps build your sensory memory and confidence. Trust your senses and enjoy the process.
