This is so good!! Had to share!!

I saw this posting on social media today and had to laugh. I thought it might be a good lead into the life of artists ....

"It must be so relaxing to paint all day" - It can be relaxing when everything is going perfectly, but the years of practice, discards, tense shoulders, and "do overs" definitely don't equate to relaxing. Tell me that the next time I paint over a section of a painting for the third time because "it just doesn't look right"!

"My kid could do that" - it must be wonderful to have a genius child who understands color values and color mixing and has spent time and money studying art. Celebrate him/her!

"How long did that take you" - A difficult question. Artists work at varying speeds just like anyone in a career. Sometimes the simplest-looking artwork could have taken 30 hours of effort to get that "simple" effect. Let's put it this way - it took as long as it took to get it the way the artist envisioned it. That doesn't include the research, the classes, the drawing, the ex*****on, the advertisement, and the list goes on.

"Why is it so expensive" - See above for "How long did that take you". What appears to be expensive rarely earns minimum wage for the artist.

"You are so lucky to be able to do what you love" - Yes, we are. We are driven to do art. In reality, 99.99% of artists either work a full-time job besides doing art or have retired from a full-time job.
