Our Toddler community loves food prep. Last week, Toddler 2 enjoyed chopping veggies from the classroom garden and Toddler 1 had a wonderful time making fruit smoothie popsicles!

Grasping a handle and pouring water or grains helps children develop fine motor control. These simple activities isolate single skills children will later need, in combination, for more complex processes. Our principle behind the activities Montessori designed was that "control of error" be evident.

In Montessori education, letters are introduced by phonetic sounds rather than letter names. And they’re not introduced in their order within the alphabet. Instead, they’re introduced in an order that allows the child to make many words with the letters he or she has learned.

The children at Wake Forest Montessori love water transfer works! This child is transferring water with a turkey baster. This helps the child to develop hand-eye co-ordination, a sense of order, helps to develop concentration and independence.
Water transfer works are fantastic for fine motor control, bilateral coordination, core strength and many require the child to cross the mid-line. Even carrying the work from the shelf to a table requires strength and skill.
