Last week the Foundation hosted a Financial Literacy Fair for more than 40 middle school students at the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club. Check out the recap video here ๐

What is a Financial Literacy Fair? It's a fun way to teach young people about budgeting and finances. ๐ฐ๏ธ
At the start of the fair, each student was given a job profile with a salary and life scenarios such as credit score, insurance premiums, and tax deductions from their paycheck. They were then asked to choose basic expenses such as housing, transportation, clothing, and many more. Some students were even given a fate card that provided a real-life unexpected scenario such as a flat tire expense, paying for a medical expense without insurance, and late payments on their credit card.
The Foundation created this program in 2018 and has served more than 2,000 individuals since inception. Check out our video to hear what the students and volunteers thought of their experience!
Thank you to Pinnacle Financial Partners for sponsoring our Financial Literacy program, and to Octavius Jeffreys (This Guy Electrostatic Services L.L.C) and each and every volunteer who helped make this event happen.

The program is the creation of the Wake Forest Chamber Foundation and sponsored by Pinnacle Financial Partners.

It's and today we celebrate Rosemary Pimentel with the . ๐๐ฝ
Rosemary volunteered at our Financial Literacy Fair, which is a fun, interactive program for middle school and high school students to learn the real value of money.
Why did Rosemary decide to volunteer? In her words ...
"I was extremely happy to volunteer to assist with the betterment of our town. To better serve and encourage our children at the Wake Forest Middle School and show then that learning can be fun. I chose the financial fair because I remember how scary adulting and finances could be at a young age."
Rosemary learned a lot from her experience:
"My volunteer experience taught me to see through the eyes of our kids. I learned that at times life can look so confusing without the right guidance. But with the right tools and people you are able to get the most out of life and learning. Also, volunteering taught me patience, lot's of patience. Thank you for that!"
Thank you, Rosemary, for taking time out of your busy schedule to help us out and make a difference in the lives of our community's youth!
Our next Financial Literacy Fair is on Oct. 5 at the Wake Forest Boys and Girls Club. We need volunteers! Check out all the details here ๐๐ผ

โ๏ธHow a Financial Literacy Fair Works:
๐ Students are assigned an occupation and salary when they arrive at the fair, then rotate through a series of tables that feature everyday expenses like mortgage/rent, health insurance, transportation, entertainment, and more.
๐ฒ Throughout the process, students must grapple with โwantsโ versus โneedsโ and make responsible decisions.
๐ฅ Volunteers are needed to man the various tables and guide students through the process. Training is provided.
