Hey parents, are you looking for a fun interactive space for your child this summer?

Here at Waterbrook Academy we laugh, dance, do science experiments, arts & crafts. At Waterbrook your child gets to join in creative play. New friendships bud and fun experiences are had here at Waterbrook.

What does learning outside the classroom look like?

A couple weeks ago our elementary class put on a very successful bake sale.

Led by Ms. Kyndra, they planned recipes, called local businesses for pricing and then went out into the community and looked for potential sponsors who would come alongside their bake sale and donate baked goods and baking supplies.

Before they left we prayed for them to represent Waterbrook well, we prayed for open hearts and boy did the Lord ever hear our prayer.

An hour into their quest they called all excited. They found their first donor.

Soon they had a second, third and fourth.

The next step was to choose recipes and get to baking. They baked a day and a half. Their hands and feet were tired but their smiles said it all. They were proud of what they had accomplished.

This bake sale was utilized to teach each student about business and how to talk to other people. We talked about walking in confidence when speaking to potential supporters.

All in all this was a huge success and the students loved every minute.

This bake sale paid for new playground equipment.

A simple Montessori-inspired work you can try at home this week: SPOONING.

Here’s how to set it up:
1) Put a small bowl of dry rice (or beans) on a tray.
2) Add an empty cup or jar.
3) Offer a child-sized spoon.
4) Show it slowly once, then let your child take over.

What it builds:
• concentration
• hand strength and coordination
• independence (I can do it myself)

Tip: Start with a small amount of rice so cleanup stays simple.
