Community Education exists to create opportunities for our citizens, the school district, business, agencies, and institutions to become active partners in addressing education and community concerns. These partnerships of mutual benefit use our community resources to address community needs through methods that help people help themselves and raise the quality of life in our great community. Thro
ugh this unique concept of education, we believe that:
• Education is a lifelong process;
• Everyone in the community – individuals, business, public and private agencies – shares responsibility for the mission of educating all members of our community; and,
• Citizens have a right and responsibility to be involved in determining community needs, identifying community resources, and linking those needs and resources to improve our community. Community Education results in:
• A responsive education system and an improved learning climate in our schools;
• Efficient and cost-effective ways of delivering education and community services;
• Broad-based community support for our schools and other community agencies;
• An emphasis on special populations, such as at-risk, underrepresented, and underserved youth; and,
• Collective action among all educational and community agencies to address quality of life issues. Working together, through Community Education, our community can address concerns such as: early learning and child care programs, out-of-school time programming, student achievement and school effectiveness, community pride and support for our schools, literacy and diploma completion, community economic development, and other community ideas.
