HTA Līhu‘e’s Xavier P. made the news today for his heroic rescue of an endangered seabird. Kaua‘i Now News tells how he spotted the waterlogged koa‘e kea struggling offshore at Kawailoa Bay Beach. Xavier swam out to save the bird and carried it safely back to shore in his hat. The white-tailed tropicbird is now recovering and gaining strength under the professional care of Save Our Shearwaters We are so proud of Xavier for using his instincts and aloha to protect our native Hawaiian wildlife. While today marks the start of summer for all our students, it also marks a profound mahalo and a bittersweet goodbye to our Lāhainā campus’ temporary home at Kapalua. When the wildfires changed everything, the Yanai family stepped forward with incredible generosity, donating this space so our Lahaina ‘ohana had a place of both learning and healing.
Kapalua has been our sanctuary but, this summer, the moving trucks are headed to Lāhainā town and our permanent, forever home.
Mahalo to the Yanai family and the staff for making our time here so special. We’re moving forward, but we’re carrying the spirit of this place and your generosity with us.

Shoutout to Kaua‘i senior Zach T who was featured in for his initiative to help his HTA peers pre-register for voting. Pre-registration lets 16- and 17-year-olds sign up early so they are automatically set to cast their ballots the moment they turn 18. Zach’s dedication to getting youth voices heard just earned him recognition from Kaua‘i Mayor as a top civic leader. The future of democracy is looking bright when students like Zach are leading the charge to the ballot box.
