Researchers from Hiroshima University studying Hawaii's new first-generation Japanese are currently visiting Waipahu Hongwanji. The new first-generation Japanese are basically the Japanese moms at our dojo! We are happy to help them with anything they need. 【A Day of Triple Celebrations! 🎉🥋🎂】Talk about perfect timing! Yesterday was an incredibly special day at Funakoshi dojo as we celebrated our Dojo Anniversary in the best way possible! First, we had a surprise visit from Noah! He trained with us as a child and was 8 years old when he moved away. Now at 22, he’s back from Washington staying with his uncle, Thor—one of our own proud Black Belts! No matter how many years pass, our dojo is always home. 🏡❤️ To make the day even more magical, we also got to celebrate the birthday of one of our amazing dojo moms! 🎂✨At Funakoshi Hawaii , we aren’t just a martial arts school—we are a family that celebrates life’s milestones together. From childhood memories to black belt achievements, we build bonds that last a lifetime.

We teach kumite by carefully analyzing the 'Why' and the 'How'.
One of our students has recently promoted to brown belt. His kumite has become truly sharp, and his dedication shows in every movement. Splendid work. Keep moving forward on your path. 当道場では「なぜ」「どのように」を丁寧に分析して組手を教えています。組手は強制なしで、年齢により自分に合った稽古が出来ますが、子供達はほぼ全員組手を楽しんでいます😊

At our dojo, we value proper etiquette when taking a break or leaving. In a small community like Hawaii, running into each other happens a lot. Knowing how to greet each other properly saves children from awkwardness and builds confidence to live proudly. We were so happy that a student on a long break stopped by today just to say hello to everyone.✨️💝当道場では、お休みや退部をするときの正しい礼儀作法を大切にしています。ハワイのような小さなコミュニティでは、ばったり会うことがよくあります。お互いにきちんと挨拶ができることは、子供たちを気まずさから救い、堂々と生きる自信を築きます。今日、長期休暇中の生徒がみんなに挨拶をするために道場に立ち寄ってくれました。とても嬉しかったです。☺️✨️👍
