Aloha, we're posting today to humbly ask for support for our dojo. Kaito Gakko Maui currently teaches students that are ages 4 and up and have been blessed to enroll students from all over Maui. Sensei’s students and their families come from all walks of life and he understands that in order to keep the traditions and culture thriving, he needed to ensure that tuition remained at a low cost as to not burden his students financially. Normally, Sensei would cover all rent and utility cost with revenue from his personal business however, being in the entertainment and event set-up business, bookings have slowed down immensely since last August. The Maui Wildfires that happened a year ago has taken itʻs toll on our Sensei. Financially, he has been struggling but has been blessed with caring and understanding students and families that want to see Sensei and his dojo succeed. At the moment, Sensei is behind on rent and the recently added CAM for the property. Sensei would really love to continue reaching the families of Maui and continue to remain open. The dojo’s families have come up with a few ideas for fundraisers to help keep the
dojo going in the future however, Sensei is still currently behind. Even a small donation amount would make a powerful impact — so please join us in our mission to keep this dojo going. Your generosity will make a significant difference and empower us to create positive change.
All donations can be made via venmo, or cash
app to our dojo mom Kanoe. For Venmo they can send to -silva and Cash app $KanoeKamaunu. If sending via one of those apps, please mark it as a “gift for Kaito Gakko” Mahalo nunui!

This past week was one to remember. I’ve been a black belt under my grandfather for 11 years now and I’ve had the honor to be Sensei of these amazing keiki on Maui for 4 years. This past Tuesday we had our annual belt promotions and had a total of 20 students be promoted. They all worked extremely hard and have been persistent with classes, they proved to me that they deserved it. Not only that, I surprised them having my sensei (grandpa) fly in from Oahu to watch and support my choices of promotions. One really took us all by surprise when we stepped in to promote one of my OG students to Shodan 🥋 so much could be said about this student now, but I will save it for another post. As a Sensei, despite the medals we carry from tournaments which I’m extremely proud of my competition kids for doing, to see one of my students be promoted to a black belt by my sensei is an enormous honor. It keeps my drive burning knowing that I am doing something right and making an impact on these students lives in a positive way. I am so proud of all the students and can’t wait for more years to come!
