Waialua Team 359 "The Hawaiian Kids" It’s not about winning…. It’s about teamwork, commitment, and responsibility! Aloha! We’re FIRST Team 359 of Waialua Robotics, a.k.a. the Hawaiian Kids!

We proudly represent Hawaii as not only the first FRC team, but also as the first robotics-related program in the state! We have been a part of FIRST since 1999 and have participated in the FIRST Robotics Competition for thirteen years. Comprised of a relatively small and dedicated group of diverse students, mentors, and volunteers, we strive to transform the culture of our plantation community through the values of FIRST. For the first time, Team 359 is competing in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)! Teams 35703, 35704, 35705, and 35706 attended the FTC kickoff in Hawaii, meeting 45+ teams and attending multiple workshops. We are excited to participate in BioBuzz and attend our first league meet in October!

We had so much fun volunteering at the Haleiwa Jodo Mission Bon Dance on the 17th and 18th of July! We helped out with serving delicious food to attendees and sending off the paper lanterns off into the water. Toro Nagashi is a beautiful ceremony where paper lanterns are sent into the water to guide ancestral spirits back to the spirit world. It was an honor to be there and help out!

On July 10th and 11th, we volunteered at the Shingon Mission Bon Dance, a festival to honor and remember our ancestors. Students had the responsibility of managing the concession stand, setting up, taking pictures, and most importantly: making sure everyone was having a good time! We ended the Indiana Robotics Invitational in third place! We are so proud of how far our alliance has come and had a great time competing with some of the best. Mahalo to our alliance partners Team 1833, RoboWhales | Team 9032, and FIRST Robotics Team 1710 for making our return unforgettable. Look out for our next showing at Chezy Champs in September!

Last week, we celebrated our annual end-of-the-year party with our team members, families, friends, mentors, sponsors, and grantors! We looked back on all of our accomplishments from this season and recognized the people who made a huge impact on our team. To show our appreciation, we presented custom awards to students, mentors, families, and individuals for their dedication and involvement throughout the year, and awarded our seniors with scholarships to further their education.
