Village Christian Co-op

Village Christian Co-op Enhancing what children learn at home with educational & extracurricular classes in a social setting. One parent must always be onsite with their child(ren).

Village Christian Co-op meets on Tuesdays for three 8-week sessions from early October to early May. Our day starts at 10:30 am, we hold three, one hour classes with a 45 minute lunch break. Families are expected to to help set up in the morning, clean up after themselves after lunch and help final clean up at the end of the day before leaving the building. We are a parent led co-op, all parents m

ust participate in teaching throughout the year and being a class helper. We do not allow drop offs. Our class options are chosen and taught by the parents. First session classes are not finalized until August/September. We are an enrichment co-op with a focus on academics, so the options are endless. NOTE: Each family who joins Village Christian Co-op must have at least one school-aged child, kindergarten or older.

2024-2025 Fees:

We have all cleaned pennies with vinegar before, its a homeschool staple! But did you know that if you cleaned them in a vinegar and salt solution, you could use that same solution to essentially copper coat steel? (Explained below)

We also experimented with using a variety of common kitchen ingredients to "clean" pennies (the more acidic the better the results, and mustard surprised many students as a top cleaner). Our high school students have learned so fast this year, and can now balance chemical equations and calculate molar mass!

I'm going to copy from thoughtco.com and give them credit for this fun experiment, it was actually one I had never done myself, and neither had any of my students!

"The copper that coats the nail/screw comes from the pennies. However, it exists in the salt/vinegar solution as positively charged copper ions as opposed to neutral copper metal. Nails and screws are made of steel, an alloy primarily composed of iron. The salt/vinegar solution dissolves some of the iron and its oxides on the surface of the nail, leaving a negative charge on the surface of the nail. Opposite charges attract, but the copper ions are more strongly attracted to the nail than the iron ions, so a copper coating forms on the nail. At the same time, the reactions involving the hydrogen ions from the acid and the metal/oxides produce some hydrogen gas, which bubbles up from the site of the reaction - the surface of the nail or screw."

Thank you to all who joined us this summer at our park days. Hopefully we were able to answer all your questions and give you a glimpse into our families and what makes our group so wonderful.
We only have a few spots open for our teens classes. At this time we are closing registration UNLESS you are registering your teen.
Thank you,
Village Christian Co-op Steering Committee

We are opening registration for 2024-25 co-op!
We start back Oct 1st on Tuesdays, 10:30-2:30. We meet weekly in Sharon Center.
Our complete class schedule won't be available for a couple of weeks, but we always have a good mix of science, arts, core/stem, and everything in between. If we have enough interest we can have a high school chemistry class that would count as the lab for a hs credit!
We are excited to work on a yearbook with the students getting to be in charge of the planning, layout and design.
We have holiday parties, field trips, volunteer opportunities and park days together and it's all a lot of fun and a great chance for socializing.
Aug 27th we will have a park trip to Fort Island Park
Sept 10th we are doing a zoo trip including an educational animal encounter!

Both are a great chance to meet our members and see if your family would enjoy joining us! Please reach out, we would love to meet you!

Anyone else have the kind of kids who catch fish with their bare hands? The baby really wanted to hold it.
Tuxedo park is one of our favorite places. So peaceful.
Where should we go for our next park day?
