Teach to Bloom

Teach to Bloom Teach to Bloom The humble beginnings of a small farm with big heart.

Homesteading in the midlands of South Carolina and farming naturally produced heirloom herbs, vegetables and flowers for local markets. With sustainability in mind and permaculture practices being implemented with each new stock, flock & seed incorporated.

Grateful for basket weaving traditions shared, grateful for murals of love with my class family and our hive, grateful for the Spring sun energizing and waking up the wild, grateful for wise and humble adults that lead with love, grateful for microcosms of unity and the hope that it could possibly catch hold, contagious unity can you imagine? grateful for family and happiness in our home noticing how lucky we are to linger and relish the comfort of just being together. This sliver of time I’ll remember, because of the people, the art, the love. “Of All Things Love is the Most Potent” -Maria Montessori

A final look at the glorious green bounty my class of busy bees & school family helped cultivate. This special area is shared by a handful of teachers to tend. It is growing in so many ways thanks to sharing the toil with , our budding gardener students & parent volunteers. We have harvested and cooked with so many things from the raised beds this year. It’s here amongst berries, sunflowers & marigolds we buried our beloved class beta fish Bubbles this past week (he was over 3 years old!). Currently, we will leave the ‘Three Sisters Garden’ based on the Haudenosaunee Legend 🐝 of corn, beans, and squash from ancestral seed to grow on as we go on break - These “three sisters” are considered by the Haudenosaunee people to be special gifts from the daughter of Original Woman. THE HAUDENOSAUNEE PEOPLE are a confederacy of six nations native to the Northeast in the US, as well as Ontario and Quebec in Canada. This confederacy consists of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora. Haudenosaunee means “people of the longhouse.”

Corn, beans, and squash are considered by the Haudenosaunee people to be special gifts from the daughter of Original Woman (Skywoman). As the story goes, when the daughter was dying in childbirth, she said that from her body would come the foods that would sustain the people. From her hands came the beans, from her breasts grew the corn, from her bellybutton grew the squash vines. From her legs grew the sunflowers, and from her head grew the sacred to***co. From her heart sprouted the strawberry, and from her feet the original potato, known as a sunchoke. This is the cosmological story that comes to life every time Haudenosaunee people plant a Three Sisters Garden. Moments of Grace, 2022. Last days of Primary and onward to Lower Elementary. Two teeth gone and one foot in the 2nd plane. The privilege of being her mama is all mine and it’s the best thing I could ever imagine for this life. One look at her and I feel like I have all the luck. My husband and this child are everything good.

Bridging Day 5/25/22. Her intelligence burns bright, her heart is full of love. She is kind, creative and crosses confidently to Lower Elementary. I’m so grateful to share this journey. Nothing compares to the joy of being her mama. ‘Oh darling don’t you ever grow up’

Today is our daughter’s 1st day being 6. She is remarkably kind, confident and curious. When I think of her and her daddy the words ‘perfect love’ flash in my head and the feeling of true love floods my being. The very best thing that has ever happened for us, is Grace. Happy sixth birthday to this amazing human that makes our world completely divine.

‘Twas the night before Christmas & it was that magical time of night when her dear family was soundly asleep so that the grateful mama could meditate on the gratitude and send out love and well wishes to you and yours.

"An ordinary teacher cannot be transformed into a Montessori teacher, but must be created anew, having rid herself of pedagogical prejudices. The first step is self-preparation of the imagination, for the Montessori teacher has to visualise a child who is not yet there, materially speaking, and must have faith in the child who will reveal himself through work. The different types of deviated children do not shake the faith of this teacher, who sees a different type of child in the spiritual field, and looks confidently for this self to show when attracted by work that interests. She waits for the children to show signs of concentration." (Dr. Maria Montessori, 'Education for a New World', Clio Press Ltd, 67)
