We asked over 1,000 parents and caregivers about situations in which they don’t buckle their child for every ride. We found out that men were more likely than women to report sometimes or often riding with their child unrestrained, regardless of the situation asked about.

Buckling up on every ride is the single most important thing a family can do to stay safe in the car. No trip is too short to buckle up. In a crash, correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent. Keep your kids safe on the road this Child Passenger Safety Week and make sure they’re safe and secure for every ride.

🚨 Attention Supporters Safe Kids-NC Coalitions!

Over the past 30 years, we’ve built an incredible Safe Kids Network across our state. But now, we face a challenge that could threaten everything we've worked for.

We need YOUR help to protect the Community Risk Reduction positions! Here's how you can make a difference:

✅ Join us on **September 8, 2026** to contact your state representatives about the importance of the 4 Community Risk Reduction (CRR) positions in NC.

✅ We’re asking for 20 people from each county to call your legislators between 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 8th.

✅ These roles support child passenger safety, grant programs, car seat distribution, smoke alarms, and so much more — and they’re not redundant, but essential!

✅ Anson’s Senate: https://ncleg.gov/Members/Biography/S/423

✅ Anson’s House: https://ncleg.gov/Members/Biography/H/663

✅ If they don’t answer, keep calling — persistence matters! Set a reminder on your phone or calendar so you don’t forget.

**Talking Points:**
- Please restore the 4 CRR positions cut in the 2026 state budget (page 582). These roles support all of us, not redundant, and were actively serving communities.

- For nearly 30 years, these positions have ensured Child Passenger Safety training, continuing education, and access to car seats for technicians across fire departments, police, hospitals, and more.

- They apply for grants supporting 42 Coalitions and 314 checking stations, providing car seats, smoke alarms, pill take-back events, and resources that impact every family in NC.

- Share how Safe Kids programming has made a positive difference in your life!

**Together, our voices can make a difference! Let’s unite to safeguard the future of child safety in North Carolina.**

Thank you for your commitment!

🚌Your Child's Safest Journey to School Starts With You!
Every morning, you let your child out the door and hope they make it to the bus stop safely. Every afternoon, you wait for them to come home. But here's the thing: The bus stop is one of the most dangerous parts of their school day.

What You Need to Know:

Your presence matters. Your attention saves lives. Before your kids reach that bus stop, teach them this:

✔️ Get there early and wait in a safe spot away from the road
✔️ Never run toward the bus (drivers can't always see them)
✔️ Stay 10 feet back until the bus comes to a complete stop
✔️ Always cross in front of the bus where the driver can see you

Your presence at the bus stop says one thing to your child: "You matter. Your safety matters."
Be there. Teach them. Stay alert.
