What a season! Our St. Joe’s Cross Country team packed a whole lot of running, determination, and fun into just ONE month!
From September 1st through October 1st, our 13 runners, mostly in grades 3–5, along with one 6th grader and one 7th grader, practiced about twice a week and competed in meets against runners from other schools.
And Mother Nature certainly kept things interesting! From blazing hot and humid practices to a blustery, cloudy meet at Cologne Academy, and finally, a picture-perfect day for our home meet in the Grimm Farm area at Lowry, our Saints took it all in stride! Even though one meet was rained out, our runners made the most of every opportunity.
And they had some impressive results! Seven of our 13 runners earned ribbons for placing between 2nd and 5th in at least one meet! What an accomplishment!
But cross country is about more than ribbons and finishing places. It’s about perseverance, sportsmanship, encouraging teammates, and pushing yourself to do your best. Our Saints showed all of that throughout the season!
A HUGE thank-you to our head coach, Ms. Matlon (Middle school science teacher extraordinaire) and our wonderful parent volunteer coaches and those who joined our runners during practices: Marisa McKeever, Mary Philp, Matt Turek, and Carla Brandt! Your time, encouragement, and dedication helped make this a safe, successful, and memorable season.
With no 8th graders on the team this year, we’re hoping to see ALL of our runners back next fall…and maybe a few new friends joining them!
Thank you to Trevor Jager for the great photos!
Way to go, Saints! You made every step count!
