National Suicide Awareness for Law Enforcement Officers Program

National Suicide Awareness for Law Enforcement Officers Program The BJA National Su***de Awareness for Law Enforcement Officers Program's mission is simple: prevent su***de among law enforcement officers.

Effective su***de prevention training must have a comprehensive approach, focusing on occupational risks and support from law enforcement agencies, colleagues, families, and friends. We are here to raise awareness and smash the stigma of seeking help. We provide both on-site and online training and resources to law enforcement officers, agencies, and those who support law enforcement including col

leagues, friends, family, and clergy members. We are here to help you get what, where, and/or who you need. The SAFLEO website provides officers and the public with 24/7 access to ready-to-use officer safety-related content in a wide range of areas. This project was supported by Grant No. 15PBJA-22-GK-01407-VALO awarded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The Bureau of Justice Assistance is a component of the U.S. Department of Justiceโ€™s Office of Justice Programs, which also includes the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the National Institute of Justice, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the Office for Victims of Crime, and the SMART Office. Long shifts, unpredictable schedules, and the demands of law enforcement can make prioritizing quality sleep difficult. But getting enough rest is essential for physical recovery, mental clarity, decision-making, and overall officer wellness.

๐ŸŽง In the SAFLEO podcast episode, Are You in Debt With Sleep? Chiefs Cory Tchida with Georgetown, Texas Police Department and Steve Petrilli with Normal Police Department discuss the impact of sleep deprivation, how to create healthier sleep habits, and why recovery is just as important as training when it comes to staying healthy and mission-ready.
