Lower elementary students visited the Mayborn Science Theater earlier this week! As they culminated their study on space explorations, this was a great way for students to have a visual perspective of the universe.🪐🔭

In the Montessori classroom, small group lessons provide opportunities for individualized attention, peer collaboration, and hands-on discovery, meeting the student where they are.

Every student’s voice is heard, their pace is respected, and their curiosity is nurtured.

Our students celebrated the life of our beloved Maria Montessori; her vision for child-centered education continues to inspire curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning, and her legacy, the gift of “love for learning” she gave us all!

One beautiful aspect of the toddler Montessori classroom is food preparation.

From carefully preparing the food to serving themselves, each step gives children the opportunity to practice real-life skills in a purposeful and age-appropriate way. The Montessori classroom guides the child from wanting it done for them to “I can do it myself.”

The child gains a beautiful sense of independence and responsibility at such a young age.

Cultivating concentration is a special part of the Montessori classroom. Children are able to concentrate deeply and for a long period whether a teacher is watching them or not.

Children are encouraged to fully engage themselves in work that sparks their curiosity. The carefully prepared environment reduces distractions and fosters focus, allowing the child to succeed.

“As soon as concentration has begun, act as if the child does not exist.” -Maria Montessori

The First Great Lesson is a unique part of the Montessori curriculum.

It tells a story of our universe and is presented through a series of carefully crafted science experiments. This lesson highlights the interconnectedness of all things in creation, emphasizing that everything has a purpose and contributes to the overall harmony of the universe. It is designed to awaken a child's imagination and curiosity.

6th level students presented the first great lesson to all upper elementary students.

UE1 students then took a look at other creation stories, collaborating to read and summarize, and then presented them to their classmates.
