Yes! 🙌🏻 Students shouldn’t have to win the teacher lottery to learn to read. Every teacher and every student deserves to know and learn using the science of reading!

In honor of Dyslexia Awareness Month, we’re diving into why understanding dyslexia matters and how we can truly support these students every day, not just this month!

Be sure to follow along as we share more information and resources all month long.

🧠 If you're looking to dive even deeper, this month our Spotlight PD training, What Dyslexia Really Looks Like: From Identification to Intervention, will help you understand dyslexia, what it is, how we can support students, and how to navigate common challenges that arise when supporting students with dyslexia.

Dyslexia is a condition that could qualify a child as having a specific learning disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA). There is nothing in the IDEA that would prohibit the use of the term dyslexia in IDEA evaluation, eligibility determinations, or IEP documents. Further, State and Local Education Agencies cannot prohibit the use of the term dyslexia in evaluations, eligibility, and IEP documents. The IDEA and its implementing regulation contain a list of conditions under the definition of ‘specific learning disability,’ also known as SLD, and it includes dyslexia.

This month we’re sharing new resources, videos, and tips about dyslexia that you can share with family, friends, and your network. Together, we can raise awareness, support early identification, and ensure every child has the opportunity to become a confident reader.

Guilt is one of the reasons people reach out to me. “I didn’t understand.” “I thought they would grow out of it.” “I thought they were being lazy.”

Help is only a text, call, or an email away. Let me understand what struggles your student is having and we can work it out. You don’t have to be a current client just to ask questions. 💙❤️

What do you wish you’d known sooner?

About your child.
About their learning needs.
About what it could’ve felt like if support had come before the struggle.

Maybe you saw things that made you wonder.
Maybe you asked how to help.
Maybe something inside you kept tugging -
even when others said, “Don’t worry.”

We know many parents carry a moment like this. 💛
If you feel like sharing yours, we're listening.

Teaching them about their disability is just as important as remediating it!

Before your students can advocate for themselves, they need to understand dyslexia and how it impacts them. Help them understand and teach them how to advocate.
