Over the summer, the DECATS students in our Unearthing the Past course visited the Waco Mammoth National Monument to build on their learning and experience a paleontological site firsthand. What an exciting new find!
New Discovery Alert!
During a current geologic study of the original excavation our paleontologist and a Baylor University / Baylor Geosciences graduate student uncovered a new mammoth tooth and several tusk and bone fragments.
This exciting find indicates there are more fossils to discover in addition to preserving and researching the existing 34 mammoths. You can see these incredible specimens inside the Dig Shelter. Visit Waco Mammoth National Monument to learn more about the current research and new discoveries!
