REMINDER!
WEST NEWTON CHUTE PWA will be closed for the duration of this project.
The Bait Disposal Bin is closed as of today 7/6/26 and will remain closed until the landing is re-opened.

In coordination with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, we will close the West Newton Chute boat landing on the Mississippi River near Kellogg, Minnesota, around July 6.

The contractor will mobilize to the area and move river sand from the temporary placement site through the West Newton Chute boat landing to the Rolling Prairie permanent upland placement site. Operations are expected to continue for 6-7 weeks. The West Newton Chute boat ramp, parking area and all public areas will be closed to the public for the duration of the process.

Buying or selling a used dock, lift, boat, trailer, or other water equipment this summer? Take a close look before you move it.

Aquatic invasive species like zebra mussels can hitch a ride on equipment and spread to new lakes, especially mid-summer when used equipment has been in the water.

Minnesota law requires docks and lifts to be out of the water for at least 21 days before being placed in another waterbody. Before moving any water-related equipment:
✔ Clean off plants and invasive species
✔ Drain all water and remove drain plugs
✔ Inspect for zebra mussels and other AIS
✔ Spray or rinse equipment with high pressure water if available.

We are blown away and have likely set a new record! This workshop sold out on the day we opened registration! Typically a few spots open up closer to the workshop so we recommend adding yourself to the waitlist if you are interested in participating. z.umn.edu/plantIDreg
