This is a site to inform every Classmate from 1964 thru 1970 at Southwood High School who would like to help the Class of 1970 Celebrate 45 years of being out of school. This is for everyone who went thru school with the 1970 class, whether you graduated with us or not. We would like to see all of those who spent time with our class, no matter how long or how short of a time. We would like to renew old friendships and welcome all that would like to enjoy a festive party with us.

Many of you may remember Terry Faust.
Terry D. Faust, 75, of Urbana, Indiana passed away at 1:33 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Parkview Huntington Hospital in Huntington, Indiana. He was born on July 24, 1948, to John and Betty Lou (Frank) Faust in Wabash, Indiana.

Terry was a 1967 graduate of Southwood High School. He served in the United States Navy CB's, serving in Vietnam. He married his wife, Beverly J. Sparling on February 2, 1969. He worked many jobs throughout his lifetime. For thirty-five years he worked as a brick layer. He also worked at INDOT for eight and half years, and Helena Chemical Company for five years. After retirement Terry became an avid Northfield wrestling supporter. In his free time, he thoroughly enjoyed hunting and golfing, but most of all he loved his family and cherished time spent with them.

Terry is survived by his wife, Beverly J. (Sparling) Faust; one son, Mark Andrew (Judi) Faust of Argyle, Texas; one daughter, Amy Pennington of Urbana, Indiana, one brother, Sam Faust of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three grandchildren, Cortney (Nate) Hembree, Ian Faust, Zachery Pennington; two step-grandchildren, Stephen Peterson, Megan Wisdom; one niece, Katie Gengnagel. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jodi Elshire and Debra Faust.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Terry’s shop.

Preferred memorials can be made to the Northfield Boys High School Wrestling Program, 154 West 200 North Wabash, Indiana, 46992.

We have lost another SHS Graduate. Ron Sparling, brother of our classmate Craig Sparling.

RONALD SPARLING'S OBITUARY:
Ronald Earl Sparling, 74, of Lagro, Indiana, died at 2:30 pm, Sunday, August 20, 2023, at his home. He was born on December 22, 1948, in Wabash, Indiana, to Richard Earl and Marjorie Agnes (Hawkins) Sparling.

Ron was a 1967 graduate of Southwood High School, and received his Bachelors degree in Agriculture from Purdue University in 1971. He married Lavonne Veverka in Wabash, Indiana on August 24, 1969. Ron served in the Air Force Reserves. He farmed and worked in agriculture related roles including working for long time Lagro resident Bob Pefley. Ron was a pilot and often flew local executives on business trips. He then began a 25 year career working for the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. Ron spent many years as an elected member of the MSD School Board. He made an impact on many young lives as he coached the Wabash Little League Pirates for ten years. He also coached junior high girls’ basketball as well as coached JV softball with Kami at Northfield High School. Ron has shared his love for Jesus by serving on multiple Kairos Prison Ministry teams. He has spent countless hours visiting inmates and praying with men who are working to turn their lives around while in prison. His service in Lagro has included being an active member of the Lagro Lions Club. While in the Lions Club, Ron annually chaperoned young Lagro baseball players on a trip to watch a Chicago White Sox baseball game. Ron was a member of the Lagro United Methodist Church for over forty years. During this time Ron has served on numerous committees and volunteered for countless ways to serve within the church. Ron has been a member of the Lagro American Legion for many years, including serving in leadership roles.

He is survived by his wife, Lavonne Sparling of Lagro; two children, Kale Sparling of Gilbert, Arizona, and Kami (Scott) Ross of Lagro; four grandchildren, Chase and Noah Ross, both of Lagro, and Finn and Theo Sparling, both of Gilbert; brother, Craig (Monica) Sparling of Lagro; and his sister, Joyce Gentry of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Casey Sparling, and brother-in-law Bill Gentry.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Brian Chamberlain officiating. Burial will be in Lagro Cemetery. Friends may call 2-6 pm Saturday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Casey Sparling Memorial Scholarship Fund, Kairos Prison Ministry, or Lagro Canal Foundation

Unfortunately we has lost another member of our class.
Obituary
William "Bill" L. King, of LaFontaine, Indiana passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born to Walter King II and Anita (Shatto) McNeal on May 1, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio.

Bill was a 1970 graduate of Southwood High School. He was a small business owner in Seminole, Oklahoma. He enjoyed his music and also enjoyed traveling all over the country.

Bill is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Tia) King of Wabash, Indiana, James (Staci) King of Wabash, and Kalib Wilson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter King III of Warsaw, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Rodney King, and three sisters, Cindy King, Anabelle King, and Katherine Anne Marks.

A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Marion, Indiana with Pastor Solomon David officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the funeral home.

Today 10 classmates from the class of 1970 met for a 2 1/2 hour luncheon at Braves in Wabash. It was great catching up with everyone and sharing experiences with old friends.
Jane, Tamie, Ray, Rex, Lona, Claudia, Cindy, Bob, Vickie and Bea, thanks for showing up.
Next luncheon is scheduled for 8-5-23 at Braves again.

It has been learned that another one of our classmates has passed away.
Dave Glover
6-22-2023 in Madison,Alabama.
He is survived by his wife, 2 daughter, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 brother and 2 sister.
Many of Dave's family live in Wabash and Grant counties.
