Budo Voorhees Martial Arts

Budo Voorhees Martial Arts Welcome to Budo Full Range Martial Arts, where we’re dedicated to building strong bodies, stronger minds, and the strongest spirit!
(431)

Grateful for over 24 years of serving Voorhees parents in Building Strong Successful Habits, a Strong Mindset with emotional control and maturity and finally the physical skills to take action and protect themselves in a violent encounter. For over 22 years, we’ve been serving families in the Voorhees, Cherry Hill, Marlton, and Berlin area, helping kids build confidence and discipline through age

appropriate, developmentally correct training methods. We are also the ONLY program in the area that incorporates Blauer Tactical Systems’ SPEAR System into our curriculum, arming kids with the tools needed to stay safe from bullies and other danger they may encounter in their lives. We work with kids as young as 4 and go all the way up to adults! Think Budo might be the right fit for your family? Send us a DM to see how we can start working together TODAY.

Why is important.

It’s cool to know how…. Way cooler to also know why.

LIFE is RISK.

As we grow, we start to understand what is fear lead impulse versus opportunity laced risk.

There is a difference, but when it comes to understanding action will get you to where you want to go, once you’ve thought it over more than a couple times…
You start to realize momentum will carry you further than waiting for motivation; to feel like it’s a “good time.”

Ex*****on with hiccups and failure let us redirect mindset and plan.

Waiting, wishing and running away and or hiding- creates anxiety and from what we have seen, depression and a lower quality of life.

Sound deep? It is.
This game isn’t though.
And THIS IS HOW YOU INTRODUCE RISK while keeping it fun and engaging.

WE’RE A TEAM -
This works SO AMAZINGLY with parents and guardians on board, willing to learn right alongside their child.

The art of showing respect and discipline seems to be lost in a sea of permissive parenting simply because we’ve been sold a lie that is “gentle”.

Gentle means respect. THAT’S IT.
It is making a boundary appropriate for the child’s development and sticking to helping them cope when things get hard.

A lot of the time, there’s consequences for our actions and SOMETIMES we don’t like them!!

Bring a parent means knowing this process ourselves and playing the long game with building a foundation of capability.
To handle frustration.
To keep your word.
To show up when you simply “don’t feel like it”.

There is balance and situational awareness of course but it starts with their main source of information- YOU.

Take back parenting. We’ve got your back ❤️‍🔥

Tony Blauer & the S.P.E.A.R. System is about defending yourself in the street. It’s simple and reliable.

This video demonstrates one small aspect of the spear system. That is the effective use of the forearm…in this case…as a pry bar.

Many instructors try to mimic the spear by focusing on the physical tool solely as a framing mechanism to shield and protect the head.

The system is much, much deeper than just a physical blocking or striking tool.

These instructors don’t understand or never took the time to delve into the system

The system is really about managing fear. It’s about our relationship with fear and how we can harness that fear as fuel to move forward in our daily lives as well as when our life is on the line.

The system is about understanding what your body wants to do when you are suddenly under attack. It’s about how you can use your body’s natural responses to intercept the attack and save yourself or your loved ones.

This is why it’s simple for children to learn the system and become safer. It’s hard wired into them on physiological level.

It just takes the right kind of coach to help them connect to this system. A certified SPEAR Coach.

Accept no substitutes.

CAPABLE OF SHOWING UP.

Of witnessing fear within.
Looking straight into its eyes… and MOVING THROUGH IT.

This is not about fighting. Especially for our smaller kids this isn’t even about skill yet (a lot of the time).

This and more, of what we try to instill, are the fundamental values of a productive human that are LOST in some of today’s world.

Challenges help us GROW.
Losing/ failure/ things falling through/ “tough breaks” / wanting to quit because it’s hard- this is all INFORMATION as to what pushes back at you.

Opportunities to make decisions.

Really makes you angry to fail at something? That probably means you care, not that you suck. (Or you care and you suck right now 😂)

Doing our best doesn’t mean we have it in us to BE our best that day, and that’s ok too.
Conversations around capabilities and our children need to change.

Crying doesn’t always mean I’m done, or they’re not ready, it means a feeling is moving though and I need help managing it.

Fall down- GET BACK UP
That’s life. It’s what we do over and over again to experience it.

Would help if a lot of us understood it’s not a jury sentence or bad luck - it’s a doorway for GROWTH.
Even if the growth is simply changing the way we view difficulty.

There’s a lot that goes into the process, when teaching a child about a sport.
For all kids, What but for smaller kids in particular, it’s heavily based on play and connection.

Of course the specific skills are necessary to play the sport, but have you built the foundations that are necessary for the child.

Listening to instructions, finding a sense of integrity and loyalty to themselves and instructors while still playing the game, doing right by others, learning to get things wrong and to take it as data and to keep moving…

These are very big lessons that need to be wrapped in very small packages to be accepted, absorbed and displayed.

We are honored to take the challenge head on, now more than ever, our children need strong guidance and self assessment skills.

Our Lil’ ninja program is for our 4 and 5 year olds.
Not yet big kids, no longer babies…
But powerful and amazing.

No one has to complete particular trainings or accomplish huge feats, to prove their willingness to participate as a warrior.

However, those who continue to test themselves to grow, get tested by life to evolve and STILL live with pure intentions and faith?
They are some of the strongest you will find.

Some sports train sport skills.

Some train life skills.

Martial arts should hit both targets with immense passion and perseverance.
It is a learning ground for self development.

If your child (or yourself) are in a sport, but cannot handle a game loss… there’s a gap.

Wins without humility - GAP.

Great at throwing, unsure of socializing - GAP.

Lacks team building skills in a team sport - GAP

MMA makes you better at all sports, as well as helps you deal with this crazy sport we tap into everyday -called LIFE.

Life is the sport and you should know how to play it with joy, passion and confidence.

1. Attendance Matters and he doesn’t fight it.
We used to consistently have a conversation about how he did “not want to go” but then after we got there he would have a great time and want to go back.
It was confusing as a parent, and difficult at times because I felt like I was making him go.
What I realized is, sometimes I DID need to make him go, because I was the momentum he leaned on.
Now he finds it himself and respects it.

2. He’s commenting on being “good” at movements.
Like anything we get into, practice is a huge piece to helping us feel competent.
Lots of us quit before we even get started because the amount of work that is required feels like too much.
Kids especially feel overwhelmed if they’re not getting something immediately and it’s not super fun and silly all the time.
He’s understanding practice/resilience can feel fun, and he doesn’t have to lose his silly nature altogether to nurture it.

3. He’s feeling “BAD A$$”.
we all know confident/ capable kids - are kind, helpful kids. Insecurity and fear breeds bully behavior and resentment.
Before he walked into class the other day he said “I do love coming here, because I feel strong and ya know, I feel bad ass!”
That is a huge win for a parent (maybe you’d prefer them not to say ass but 😉)
I’m not telling him what I think he is, he’s telling me what he feels like inside!!!

4. He’s understanding his actions have consequences without blaming others.
If he doesn’t wrap his hands before class he does burpees, without a fight.
He’s not being punished per se, he is starting to put together cause and effect.
No tears, no hard feelings, OWNERSHIP.

And that is the ultimate goal.
When people have full ownership over their own actions, they are more capable to change the ones that unintentionally hurt people and nurture the ones that create a joyful life of dedication and momentum of wellness.

It didn’t take him 5 years to totally get here, but it DID TAKE TIME.
These days time can feel hard to put in, because instantaneous results and deliveries have become so common.
