Welcome Katherine Giglio, our new Pedagogical Director! ✨

After a thoughtful search with faculty, board, and parents, we found someone whose warmth, leadership, and Waldorf experience are exactly what our community envisioned. ✨

Katherine brings 30 years of Waldorf education experience across Texas, Colorado, and California, including over a decade as Early Childhood Director at The Waldorf School of San Diego. Grounded in both Waldorf pedagogy and psychology, she’s passionate about building supportive networks so students thrive inside and outside the classroom. ✨

She believes leading with warmth and integrity creates school communities where everyone belongs. We invite you to say hello in the comments! ✨

Why do we teach music in Waldorf Education? Through music, our students learn to connect, harmonize, and grow — musically, academically, and personally. ✨

Singing is a part of every day. We introduce pentatonic flute, diatonic flute, and recorder in Grades 1-3 and move onto strings in Grades 4-8 with music notation and multi-part choral works. Music isn’t just a subject at our school — it’s woven into every main lesson, festival celebration, and even class plays. ✨

We believe music shapes not just skilled musicians, but whole, grounded human beings. ✨

Applications for the 26/27 school year still open with limited spots — link in bio to apply! ✨

There’s a particular kind of magic in a kindergarten class — special shoes, familiar toys, and a community of children learning together. Swipe through to see moments at Sanderling from our Sweet Pea Early Childhood TK/K class with Ms. Megumi and Ms. Angelica. This is a window into the many meaningful experiences happening simultaneously on a typical Wednesday. ✨

This isn’t a textbook diagram — it’s a page from a Sanderling Waldorf School student’s own main lesson book. Before ever touching a keyboard, our grades students take apart a real computer: studying the fan, the hard drive, the modem, every piece. Then they draw it, label it, and write about what they’ve learned, in their own hand. ✨

Only after that full understanding do they put it back together and use it. ✨

That’s the difference between using technology and understanding it. Low-tech, hands-on, deeply rooted learning — this is Waldorf education. ✨

Want to see more from our students’ main lesson books? Applications are still open - link in bio to apply. ✨

“Would you like to pet a chicken?” ✨

That’s what a Sanderling Waldorf School student asked a group of touring parents mid-football game — walking straight over with a chicken in his arms, completely at ease.✨

No performance. No self-consciousness. Just a child comfortable in his own skin, comfortable with adults, comfortable sharing something delightful with visitors. ✨

That same groundedness shows up in unexpected ways. One Sanderling parent shares that her son loves baseball, football — and knitting. No contradiction there. At Sanderling, handwork is part of the curriculum for every child, building focus, patience, and pride alongside the sports they love. ✨

That’s what “whole child education” actually looks like — head, heart, and hands, not just future test-takers. Read the full story on our blog, The Main Lesson — linked in bio. ✨

Going back to school can look different this year! ✨

At Sanderling Waldorf School, our Elementary and Middle Grades aren’t relying on screens — their aim is to ignite a lifelong love of learning. Picture children analyzing fractions through baking, studying geography by building a shelter, and discovering the Renaissance through the eyes of an 7th grader on the edge of adolescence. ✨

Our class teachers stay with students as they grow, weaving in academics with music, handwork, gardening, and eurythmy. From the wonder of Grade 1 form drawing to independent projects in Grade 8, every year builds capacities for creativity, resilience, and critical thinking that go far beyond the classroom. ✨

Our LAST group tour of the summer is available for sign ups and will be held on Wednesday, August 12th — link in bio to book your spot! ✨

Applications for 2026/2027 are still open! ✨

At Sanderling Waldorf School we believe childhood should be full of wonder — handmade toys, imaginative play, and stories that spark the mind. This little wool sailor and his felted mermaid arranged on an Early Childhood nature table, captures what our classrooms feel like: cozy, creative, and rooted in reverence.

Spots for the upcoming school year are filling up, and we’d love for your family to be part of our community. Don’t wait until the last minute — apply now so you’re all set and settled in before September. ✨

A gentle peek into your child’s world — and a village of your own. Our Parent-Child program is built on natural play, nursery rhymes, and puppet shows with a home-like rhythm of including storytelling and an organic snack. ✨

Children learn through meaningful imitation, watching the adults they love engaged in purposeful work — all the while parents build real community and gain insight into their child’s development along the way. Our Parent-Child Program gives a soft start toward nursery school, at your child’s own pace. ✨

Our Grade 5 students joined classmates from Waldorf schools across Southern California for the annual Pentathlon at Coronado Beach — javelin, discus, wrestling, relay run, and long jump, all in the spirit of the ancient Greek games they studied during the school year. It’s one of our favorite traditions: watching this class bring their curriculum to life through strength, sportsmanship, and teamwork. ✨

While our school on summer break, our Early Childhood and Grades Summer Camps are in full swing! And if you’re considering Sanderling for the upcoming school year, now’s the time to take the next step.

Join us for a campus tour on Wednesday, July 23rd at 8:45am — a tour is a required part of our enrollment process and you’ll learn more about our school from an admissions team with over 20 years in Waldorf education. Spots are limited — RSVP through the link in our bio or reach out to our Head of Admission & Enrollment to save your spot. ✨
