Tiny hands, big focus! ✨

There’s something quite powerful about watching a child knit — the concentration, the rhythm, the pride when a few rows come together. Handwork isn’t just a camp activity. It’s how children build patience, fine motor skills, and a deep satisfaction of making something real with their own hands. ✨

In a world of swipes and screens, learning to knit, weave, or sew asks children to slow down, stay present, and discover what they are truly capable of. That’s the kind of summer we believe in at ✨

This summer, children Grades 1-5 are invited to put down the devices and pick up the needles. Screen free. Hands-on. Unforgettable. All are welcome and you’ll find ‘SUMMER CAMP’ linked bio for registration. ✨

At school, our Early Childhood program follows rhythms. Rhythms that are experienced daily, weekly, and seasonally.✨

Our TK/K daily activities flow with a sense of “breathing out” to “breathing in” from the active moments of circle, to the quiet moments of story and rest time.✨

Circle time incorporates both inhaling and exhaling as we all sing and dance, celebrating the seasons and the joy of movement. During class the children are involved in self-directed creative play and teacher-directed practical work. At story time, the children experience the quiet magic of fairy tales by either listening through puppetry or acting it out. Outside play provides another out breath for the children.✨

All transitions between activities are graced with song as the teacher creates a rhythm of active and quiet experiences for the children.✨

Sanderling TK/K classes for 26/27 have limited spaces so we encourage parents to submit an online application and tour campus as soon as possible. We have linked summer tours and how to apply in bio.✨

A year in Waldorf education is filled with celebration. At our foundation, Waldorf recognizes the wholeness and connection human beings have with all life. This is seen in our observance of changes in the seasons with community festivals such as: Michaelmas, Diwali, Martinmas, Winter Spiral, Santa Lucia, and May Faire. ✨

Our community festivals connect us with traditional cultures the world over. These events become opportunities to experience nature’s seasonal changes, but also opportunities to learn about one’s own inner movement through the seasons of change as well. ✨

Join us on a tour to learn more about how Waldorf festivals meet children at each stage of development. We’ve linked upcoming dates and times in our bio. ✨

Meaningful work while preserving the joy of childhood can be felt in our Sweet Pea TK/K class! Early Childhood program is a bridge between home and school for the young child. ✨

Our students help prepare a warm organic snack each day - chopping, stirring, and setting the table - building practical life skills and a love of nourishing food. ✨

At this time of year, the children are handcrafting tool kits and puppets! The handwork is not only beautiful but rhythmic, consistently woven throughout the week engaging the child’s will and developing fine motor skills. ✨

Who’s looking for hands-on screen free learning for their children? At we integrate hands-on learning in all programs - TK/K through Grade 8! ✨

In Grade 3 the children are studying ancient grains with focus on how we use them and where grains come from. The children hand-grind grain which engages the whole body, develops fine and gross motor skills, and provides a calming, rhythmic activity. The children also learn nutritional value and reverence for nature. ✨

This is just one of many examples of how our children get to experience hands-on learning at Sanderling. Join us for an upcoming tour to learn more with tour days and times are linked in our bio! ✨

Learning That Lives in the Whole Child - What do we mean by this?

In the Waldorf elementary years, the Class Teacher accompanies the same group of children from Grade 1 through Grade 5, sometimes beyond. This continuity of relationship is at the heart of Waldorf education. The teacher knows each child deeply, and the curriculum is shaped to meet the children where they are in their development. ✨

Every subject is taught through the arts. History comes alive through drama and storytelling. Mathematics is introduced through movement and rhythm. Language arts grow from the rich soil of fairy tales, fables, and mythology. The child’s imagination is not a distraction from learning, it is the very vehicle through which lasting understanding is built. ✨

At Sanderling, our elementary program spans Grades 1 through 5, serving children from approximately age 6 to 11. Specialty subjects, including music, eurythmy, Spanish, German, handwork, and movement, complement the Main Lesson curriculum throughout the week. ✨

Join our Head of Admissions for an in-depth tour over fresh baked sourdough bread and coffee on Wednesday, May 13th at 9am to learn more! RSVP is linked in our bio. ✨
