New AARP research: 68% of adults 50+ say universal design features matter to them. 59% think these features should just be standard in new construction. Only 35% say they'd actually go looking for a home that has them.
That gap isn't a contradiction. It's the opportunity. Most clients who want these features aren't going to ask for them by name; they're going to describe an outcome ("we want this to still work for us in twenty years") and hope the professional in the room picks up on it.
For architects, designers, and builders: the client who wants universal design is very likely sitting across the table from you right now. The question is whether you're the one who brings it up first.
