🇺🇸 250 Years of Inheritance 🇺🇸
The Fourth of July is more than the anniversary of a nation’s birth. It is a reminder that every generation receives an inheritance it did not create.
The liberties proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, the constitutional order that followed, the English language we speak, the books we read, the hymns we sing, and the ideals of justice, virtue, and ordered liberty are all part of a larger inheritance commonly called the Western tradition.
At Highlands Latin Cottage School, this is the heart of a classical education. We seek to hand on the permanent things - to cultivate gratitude before novelty, wisdom before information, and virtue before success. We believe that an education worthy of the name invites children into a great conversation that began long before us and, by God’s grace, will continue long after us.
This Independence Day, we give thanks not only for our country’s founding, but for the enduring inheritance we have received, and for the privilege of passing it faithfully to the next generation.
