Our team of advocates has nearly 100 years of combined experience in special education in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

We know the system, we know the law, and we know how to get results - with collaboration, not conflict. We are advocates for children with special needs, and we work with parents on all aspects of their child's education. We primarily serve all of Hampton Roads and Eastern North Carolina. We’ve officially launched our refreshed SDW website.

It’s designed to make special education advocacy feel more accessible, less overwhelming, and easier to understand — because clarity matters.

👉 Visit the site and take a look.

Next up: our Family Resources section.
What would you want to see there?
Checklists? Templates? Local resources? Rights explained in plain language?

Tell us in the comments — we’re listening.

As we enter November, we’re filled with gratitude for the families, students, and communities we’re privileged to support. Thank you for trusting us to walk beside you.🍂

Thank you Virginia Board for People with Disabilities (VBPD) for sharing this critical information with the community.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)! NDEAM celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices.

This year, VBPD assessed two disability service areas related to employment: Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) and Barriers to Competitive, Integrated Employment.

We are proud to release infographics that offer a high-level overview of our findings and recommendations: https://vbpd.virginia.gov/2025/10/2025-board-assessment-infographics-now-available/
